Obituary of Martha E. Johnson

Olmstedville: Martha E. (Berg) Johnson, 100, of State Route 28N, passed away Monday, April 23, 2007 at the Glens Falls Hospital. Martha celebrated her 100th birthday at the Adirondack Tri-County Health Care Center in North Creek, with special citations from her Governor, Senators, Congressman, State representatives’, Essex County Board of Supervisors, and a plaque from the Minerva Town Board. Born December 21, 1906 in Skeinge, Osby, Sweden, she was the daughter of the late Alfred and Emma (Johansson) Berg and lived in this country since 1924. She was a stewardess with her husband of the former Englebrekt Club of Worcester, MA and the Seva Gille Club of Shrewsbury. Martha was a charter member of the Trinity Lutheran Church of Worcester, MA and a member of the Minerva Baptist Church. She also was a 60 plus year member of the Charles Lindbergh Lodge #520, a 75 year member of the Vasa Order of Vikings, charter member of the SAC Club Aux. of Shrewsbury, Minerva Fire Ladies Aux., Adirondack Mountain Garden Club, Minerva Senior Citizens, and the Minerva 1976 Committee. Martha was predeceased by her husband, of 68 years, Fritz A. Johnson, and six brothers and sisters. She leaves behind her daughter, Ann-Marie J. Rowe of Devon, PA; her son, Philip F. Johnson of Olmstedville; grandsons, Robert G. Rowe III of Fairfax, VA, Lawrence A. Rowe and his companion, Terry Corbin of Manchester, CT, Brian J. Rowe and his wife, Caroline; great granddaughter, Meredith G. Rowe of Waltham, MA; and several nephews and nieces in this country and Sweden. She also leaves behind a very special family friend, Gloria T. Baroudi of North Creek. A memorial service to celebrate Martha’s life will be held 11 am, Saturday, May 19, 2007 at the Minerva Baptist Church with the Rev. Trudy Pettibone, Pastor officiating. There are no calling hours scheduled. The family requests that flowers be omitted and donations in her memory be made to the Minerva Baptist Church, Minerva, NY 12851.
