Obituary of Brian D. Richards

North Creek: Brian D. Richards, Sr., 71, of Main Street, went to join his loving wife, Marilyn, in the arms of the Lord, Friday, November 11, 2011 at Glens Falls Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Born September 10, 1940 in Ticonderoga, he was the son of the late Maurice and Rhea (Montena) Richards. Lifelong resident of North Creek, Brian graduated from Johnsburg Central High School in 1958. Brian met Marilyn Donohue and the couple eventually wed on September 28, 1963. He was proud of his time served in the Army National Guard. His working years began at Barton Mines until the opening of Gore Mountain, where he remained for 31 years, retiring as Maintenance Supervisor in 1995. Also, Brian and his father owned and operated a family Christmas tree farm for nearly 50 years. Brian was a long time member of the North Creek Volunteer Fire Department and served 10 years on the Johnsburg Central School board, including a term as president. He enjoyed spending time with his family, and especially his grandchildren. He often could be found at numerous sporting events and school concerts, totally engulfing himself in his grandchildren’s lives. Brian and his family enjoyed several years vacationing at the ocean in North Myrtle Beach, SC. He had a passion for American street rods and attended several events annually. Besides his parents and beloved wife of 46 years, Marilyn Richards, he is predeceased by his brother, Wayne B. Richards. He is survived by his sons: Brian Richards Jr. and his wife, Brandy of North Creek; Mark Richards and his wife, Rhonda of North Creek; Jack Richards and his wife, Ann Marie of Warrensburg; his grandchildren: Benjamin, Lindsey, Nolan, Laura, Jack Thomas (JT) and Matthew Richards; his sister, Ronnie West and her husband, Skip of Champlain; along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Friends may call on Brian’s family from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 pm, Tuesday, November 15, 2011, at the Alexander-Baker Funeral Home, 3809 Main St., Warrensburg. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 am, Wednesday, at the Assembly of God Church, 3990 Main St., Warrensburg, with Pastor Ronald Parisi, officiating. Burial will be held privately immediately following the funeral service at the Richards Family Cemetery, nestled amongst the family Christmas tree farm in Bakers Mills.
