Obituary of Marie E. Nelson

Lake George: Marie E. Nelson, 103, of Mohican Street, passed away peacefully, Thursday, October 11, 2018 at Home of the Good Shepherd following a brief illness. Born December 11, 1914 in Jersey City, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Laszlo and Nellie (Downes) Waress. Marie married Harold G. Nelson on July 11, 1939 in St. Cecilia’s RC Church in Cleveland, OH. She and her husband both retired from Highland View Hospital in Warrensville, Ohio, in 1977 where she worked as a secretary to a pathologist for 15 years and moved to Chestertown. Marie and Harold spent the next 25 years developing their three acres into a natural wildlife space #501. The couple eventually moved to Lake George where Marie “adopted” the gardens at Sacred Heart RC Church and transformed them into areas of beauty, continuing well into her 90’s. She spent the last six months of her incredible life at Home of the Good Shepherd in South Glens Falls. The couple are communicates of St. Cecilia’s RC Church in Warrensburg and Sacred Heart RC Church in Lake George. Marie Nelson, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, lost her best friend, her husband Harold on February 20, 2008 after 70 wonderful years together. Besides her parents and husband she is predeceased by three brothers, John, Edward, and William Waress. She is survived by her two sons, Richard Nelson and his wife, Jill of Thurman, Thomas Nelson of Suffield CT; three grandchildren, Clifton Nelson and his wife, Louise of Ft. Ann, Farley Glen Nelson and his wife, Jodi of New York City, Arielle Nelson of Suffield, CT; and two great granddaughters, Amber Nelson of Ft. Ann and Frances Nelson of New York City. Friends may call on Marie’s family from 6 to 8 pm, Monday, October 15, 2018 at the Alexander Funeral Home, 3809 Main St., Warrensburg. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am, Tuesday, at Sacred Heart RC Church, 50 Mohican St., Lake George with Fr. Joseph Busch, officiating.
