Obituary of Helen D. Allen

Johnsburg: Helen D. Allen, 65, of Garnet Lake Rd, entered into eternal life on Monday, May 16, 2011 at Glens Falls Hospital after a long and heroic battle with cancer. Born July 3 1945 in Glens Falls, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence Davis and Edith (Eldridge) La Roe. Helen graduated from Greenwich High School in 1964. She worked at different establishments through the years including Twin Coves, Kerst Boat Livery, Hemlock Hall, as well as the Adirondack Museum. She then went to work for the many with New York State ICF homes from which she retired. Her favorite pastimes included camping, baking, cooking, antiquing, and spending time with family especially her grand children. She had a creative spirit and loved to dream. She loved attending the Sodom Community Church. Helen was predeceased by her husband of 17 years, Gerald F Allen and a brother, Rolland R. Mc Cane. Helen was survived by her loving and devoted husband, Joseph M. Allen of Johnsburg; two daughters, Sharon Kerst and her significant other Aaron Wolcott of Rome, Carrie A. Mason and husband, Neil A. Mason of North Creek; two sons, James A. Kerst and wife, Adrienne of Plant City, Florida. William G. Kerst and wife, Ana Maria of Warrensburg; her brother, Donnie Mc Cane of Franklin, NC, her sister, Mary A. (Davis) Wheeler of Jacksonville FL; former husband, Jean B. Kerst of Oneida; three granddaughters, six grandsons and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends may call on Helen’s family from 2-4 and 6-8 pm Monday, May 23 at the Sodom Community Church. A funeral service to celebrate her life will be conducted 11 am, Tuesday, May 24 at the church with the Rev. Ron Allen, Pastor officiating. Burial will follow in the Garnet Lake Wesleyan Cemetery.
