Obituary of Lorna A. Bunker

Johnsburg, NY / Newport, TN: Lorna A. Bunker, 81, formally of Johnsburg, NY passed away peacefully, Friday, December 10, 2010 after a long battle with her health. Born March 16, 1929, she was the sixth of nine children of Howard and Olive (West) Fish. She married Carson Bunker her husband of 50 years on September 16, 1947 who preceded her in death July 1, 1998, also daughters Bonnie, 12, and Brenda, 9, who died of Muscular Dystrophy. Survivors include her two daughters, Connie Lee and her husband Adrian Olortegui of Orlando, FL, and Mary Lou Cross and her husband, Walt of Newport, TN. Grandchildren: Tonya Lane and her husband, Steven, Shawna Weir-Wright, Lesley Weir, Walter II, Ashley, and Carson Cross. Great grandchildren: Parker and Nyle Wright. Sister, Margaret Chastain of Cleveland, TN and her Brother, Henry Fish and his wife Nita of Elijay, GA. She was a much loved aunt to numerous nieces and nephews. She also was called Grandma by many young people. Lorna was a member of the North Creek, NY Seventh-Day Adventist Church and demonstrated her Christianity in giving Bible Studies, Pathfinder and Vacation Bible School leader, Harvest Dinners, Community Services in North Creek and Greeneville SDA Churches, as well as in North Country Ministries. She currently was a member of the Greeneville, TN Seventh-Day Adventist Church while she was living near her daughter Mary Lou. She was most gifted in caring for others. She was a cherished wife, honored mother, and capable teachers aid. She was employed by Johnsburg Head Start, Tri-county Nursing Home, Warren County Extension Office and a personal home health care agent. She greatly enjoyed her work at Upper Hudson River Rail Road as a tour guide. She received the Parent, Teacher, Student, Association award of the year. Lorna was a homemaker, baker, gardener, crafter, and artist at cake decorating. She was a seamstress at the Sewing Factory in Warrensburg. She enjoyed bowling, boating motorcycling, snowmobiling, and bird watching with her husband. Anyone that entered their home was at home. Friends may call on Lorna’s family from 12-2pm, Friday December 17th at the Tannery Pond Community Center, Main St., North Creek. Funeral services will follow the visitation at 2 pm Friday at the Community Center with her nephew, Rev. Howard Fish officiating. Burial will follow in the Bates Cemetery, Johnsburg, NY. Paul Bearers will be Tom Walter, Dan Walter, Ken Fish, Steven Lane, Larry Cook, and Mike Gouthreau. Memorials may take the form of donations to the fund for worthy campers to attend Camp Cherokee SDA Summer Camp in Saranac Lake, NY made to the North Creek, NY Seventh-Day Adventist Church or to the Johnsburg, NY Emergency Squad.
