The passion and friendship of my amazing grandparents has remained a model example of what to strive for in my life. When I look up at the clouds and listen to music that we would together, I am forever grateful of the life lessons they taught me.
Many happy memories.

I recently met Charles at the Ft Hudson facility. My mother is currently a resident.
A few months ago, as I was walking down the hallway, I noticed him sitting in the doorway with a P-51 ballcap on. I had to stop and talk as I was a former Navy pilot. We quickly fell into conversation about his 38 missions flown and some of his other experiences during and after the war. I googled him when I got home and found him to be a genuine war hero who flew one of the first long range P-51's. I looked forward to seeing him several times after that on each visit to my mom.
It was very sad not to find Charles in his room upon my last visit.
I know he appreciated the chance to talk flying again with a fellow aviator, and I saw the sparkle in his eyes as he recalled being a young fighter pilot.
Godspeed Charles on your final flight west!!

On behalf of myself, the United States Air Force and the entire military community, we extend our sympathies and sorrow for the passing of both Charles and Mary Betz. The loss of this generation of heros is felt by myself and our community. We all in this great nation owe a debt of gratitude for the sacrifices made by not only those who served in WWII, but also for the spouses of those, who created the environments that we have been able to prosper. Thank you Charels and Mary Betz.

I cannot say enough about him, about his integrity and strength, about his love of good times and taking care of business.
