Chestertown:
Peter Palubniak, 88, a longtime resident of Fanwood, NJ, and a four year resident of Chestertown, passed away, Monday, April 14, 2008 at the Crescent Manor Care Center in Bennington, VT.
Born September 1, 1919 in Jersey City, he was the son of John and Anastasia (Feciuch) Palubniak.
Peter enlisted in the Marine Corps in September, 1941, and served until January of 1946. He was stationed in Nova Scotia, and Pacific campaigns. He was an Infantry Rifleman and Guard Patrolman. He served just over two years of foreign duty and was honorably discharged with the rank of Corporal.
He met his wife after the war in Jersey City. Julia was working for the War Department office as a clerk. The couple married on April 26, 1947, at the St. Peter and Paul Russian Catholic Church in Jersey City.
Peter worked as a Longshoreman, Machinist, and was a retired UAW member. He also participated in the Local Union 726, The International Union United Automobile, and the Aerospace and Agricultural Implement Workers of America in 1984.
In the early fifties, the couple moved from Jersey City to Fanwood, NJ, setting up in a new home that they would live in with their two sons, Daniel and Russell.
He spent 28 years working as a machinist for the Elastic Stop-Nut Co.
They moved to Chestertown in the fall of 2004 to be closer to Russell and his family.
His beloved wife, Julia passed away Dec. 26, 2006 after 65 years of marriage. His son, Daniel also predeceased him.
Survivors include his son, Russell and his wife, Suzanne Rinas of Chestertown; his two grandsons, James and Jesse Palin of Texas, and many nieces and nephews in New Jersey.
Friends may call on Peter’s family from 1-3 pm Sunday, April 20, at the Alexander-Baker Funeral Home, 3809 Main St., Warrensburg.
Graveside services with full military honors will take place at 1:00 pm Monday, April 21 in Chester Rural Cemetery, Chestertown with Fr. Robert Limpert of the Adirondack Mission officiating.
Memorials may take the form of donations to your local SPCA.
