Obituary of Florence Hayes

Warrensburg: Florence Hayes, 80, of Marion Ave., passed away peacefully Friday, July 17, 2015 at her home, surrounded by her family. Born June 17, 1935 in Chestertown, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Mable (Barrett) Moffit. Florence was a lifelong resident of the area and attended Chestertown School. She met and married Harold “Gabby” Hayes in 1959. The couple spent much of their time in their 1949 Ford, taking long rides, attending parades, fireworks, camping, and family picnics. She worked the former dress factory for many years, and was later employed by the Fort William Henry. Florence was the first in her family to purchase a television set and camera. She enjoyed a constant flow of family, endless conversation, and just simply hanging out with everyone she loved. Besides her parents, Florence was predeceased by her beloved husband, Harold, a daughter, Robin Vernum, brother, Henry Moffit, sisters, Ethel Wood and Elnora Baker, brother-in-laws, Gary, Wayne, and Gerold Hayes, and a sister-in-law, Wanda Lavergne. She is survived by her children, Tammy Flexon and her husband, John, Harold Hayes, and Richie Hayes, all of Warrensburg; grandchildren, Jessica Deyoe, Megan Hayes, Tanya Palzjewski, Katelyn Hayes, Jamie Tranowitz, Amanda Vernum, Nicholas Nedelcu, Eden Nedelcu, and Sarah Flexon; soon-to-be 12 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews: Ruth Fish, Iona Harrington, Donna Geroux, Tina Pidgeon, Doreen Woodard, Louise VanCleave, Henry, Wayne, Acey, and Victor Moffitt, as well as her beloved dogs, Trish and Nanook. Friends may call on Florence’s family from 12 to 2 pm, Wednesday, July 22, 2015 at the Alexander Funeral Home, 3809 Main St., Warrensburg. A funeral service to celebrate her life will follow the visitation at 2 pm, at the funeral home with Rev. Stephen Andrews, Pastor of the Warrensburg United Methodist Church, officiating.
