Obituary of Arthur H. Irish

Lake George: Arthur H. Irish, Jr., 94, of Newton St., passed away peacefully, Friday, August 29, 2014, at his home in New Smyrna Beach, FL, with his loving wife and daughter at his side. Born August 22, 1920 in Warrensburg, he was the son of late Arthur and Nellie (Brooks) Irish, Sr. Art attended Warrensburg High School before enlisting in the Unites States Navy as an Aviation Metalsmith. He served aboard the USS Santee and crossed the Equator and International Dateline; he also entered the Realm of the Golden Dragon while onboard. Upon his return, Art began his 35 year career with New York Telephone, where he was employed as a Lineman. Art was a member of the International Order of the Elk and the Pioneer group of NY Telephone. His favorite pastimes include spending time at his home on Lake George with his wife, Jane. He was an avid outdoorsman, who enjoyed hunting and fishing, and was well known on the lake for his fishing charter enterprise. He is predeceased by his first wife, Alice, his sister, Naoma Dundon, and his brother, Karl Irish. Survivors include his beloved wife of 39 years, Jane (Mulroy) Collins Irish of Lake George and New Smyrna Beach, FL; two daughters, Martha Irish of Washington, DC, and Mary Ann Scruggs and her husband, James, of Burlington, VT; a grandson, Anthony James Sourdiff and his wife, Jamie, of Burlington, VT; one great-granddaughter, Madison; his sister-in-law, Barbara Irish of Warrensburg; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. At Arthur’s request there are no calling hours scheduled. A graveside service with military honors will be conducted 11 am, Wednesday, September 10, 2014 will take place at the Warrensburg Cemetery, with the Rev. Paul Dufford officiating.
