Chestertown:
Edwin Trautwein, 92, passed away on Monday, September 21, 2009 at the Glens Falls Hospital following a long illness.
Born in Uniondale, Long Island on January 20, 1917, he was the son of the late John and Louise (Deitrich) Trautwein.
Ed was a Master Sergeant in the U.S. Army, a Veteran of World War II and retiree of the Army Air Force Exchange Service.
For the last 35 years, he has been an active member of the Worldwide Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses, most recently in the Warrensburg Congregation.
Pop loved to play golf and spent every day he could on the golf course. He was always cheerful and full of life and will be remembered for his generosity and gentleness. He enjoyed music and a good game of cards. We can all take a lesson from his living life with “no complaints.”
We will be comforted by the same hope he had when he lost his wife and other dear friends. He looked forward to the resurrection promised by Jesus Christ, “When all those in memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out.” (John 5:28, 29) He also looked forward to the time when, “No one will say I am sick” (Isaiah 33:24), and finally when Jehovah God “Will wipe every tear from their eyes and death will be no more.” (Revelation 21:4)
Besides his parents, he is predeceased by his beloved wife, Catherine; siblings: Hilda, Charles, Lillian, and Evelyn.
He was the beloved husband of 60 years to the late Catherine (Coyle) Trautwein, who passed away November 26, 1998.
He was the loving father of two daughters; Kathleen T. Chew and her husband, Albert of Huntington Station and Karen T. Levitsky and her husband, Eugene Warrensburg. He was the cherished grandfather of three grandsons: John Joseph Levitsky and his wife, Michelle of Chestertown; David Michael Levitsky and his wife, Jeana; and Paul Edwin Levitsky and his companion, Erin Thompson all of Warrensburg; and loving great grandfather to six great grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings, Johanna Schlitt of Tennessee and John Trautwein of Alabama.
Friends may call on Ed’s family from 4 to 7 pm Wednesday, September 23 at the Alexander-Baker Funeral Home, 3809 Main St., Warrensburg.
A memorial service to celebrate his life will be conducted at 7:30 pm Wednesday, at the Warrensburg Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, Horicon Ave., Warrensburg.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Warrensburg Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses; The Alzheimer’s Association; or the Washington County Hospice.
