I had the honor of working with Jimmy for 2 years at LGE. We shared many hours of conversation and jokes. I have had many friends in my life but few like Big Jim. He was a true person with a huge heart, inspirational smile, and a positive word for every occasion. Jim truly cared for the people around him and I had the distinct privilege of being one of those people I will never forget you buddy......thanks for being my friend.

I had the pleasure of working with Jim for two years at Lake George Escape. Jim was a wonderful man who always made me feel welcome and he reminded me of home, always telling me he was half Irish! He would tell me all these stories about when he visited Ireland and how bad the roads were!
Ill never forget, a few days before I was leaving to go home, Jim cooked me a wonderful Irish meal. He was a great chef and could put his hand to anything.
Jim was always there for me when I was having trouble and offered me great advice and Im so happy to hear he got to walk his daughter down the aisle before he passed as I know this was very important to him.
Jim will be sadly missed by many and I feel privileged to have known him.
Slan, Agus Beannacht de leath Jim

To the little things that made life a joy - eclairs and butternut squash soup, and the joy that went into the preparation of wonderful meals and desserts. Such talent.
We'll miss Jim. The dance group that has been going to the Ranch for 10 years. Good times, good friends.

Dear Dever family.
It was great saddness to get an email from ranch regulars about Jim's passing.
He was truly a gentle giant those of us from the "first week of August" family will miss his wonderful smile and great food.
Jim use to hang around and play cards with the guys and between my husband him, there was such a presence of laughter whenever the two of them got around each other.
I loss my husband to God in April of 2005 and know that he was there with Gerard to greet the 'big guy' when he arrived. They probably connived him to make them something wonderful in heaven and I know none of them will ever go hungry again.
God Bless all of you for having wonderful memories of Jim that would surpass anything anyone of us from the Ranch could tell you.
God Bless You

I am so sorry to hear of Jim's passing. He has made so many meals for our family over the 18 years that we have been going to The Ranch. He was legendary for his soups!
Two stories illustrate the type of person Jim was. One year they had a standing rib. I didn't see Jims famous horse radish sauce and made a casual comment to Jim that my wife would be disappointed because she loves it so much. 5 min later Jim was at the table with a fresh batch.
On New Years Eve a bunch of us stayed an extra day. Without notice, at 2 pm there comes Jim with platters of food we grazed on for hours!
He had a heart as big as his body. We will miss him.

Mel (Santa) and I felt so fortunate to have know Jim when we worked at Lake George Escape. We remember so well how this gentle soul would sit with us and listen and share stories, always had a positive attitude and you always left feeling better for having time with Jim. It was important to Jim to have a picture with "SANTA" so he could prove that he had a personal -in- with the guy.... We will always remember Jim and feel very blessed to have known him. our thoughts and heartfelt sympathies are with Jim's friends and family at this sad time.

A day hasn't gone by that I didn't think of my close friend Jim. Even though I've been gone from Glens Falls for over thirty years, the fond memories of Jim's wonderful personality, warm smile and those
beautiful blue eyes have stayed with me. I looked forward to our class reunions since that's where we would see each other over the past twenty years. I was saddened to learn of Jim's death, and I am so terribly sorry. My Aunt Bea, Uncle Mario, Maria and Susan lived next to the Devers and it was in those back yards where we played as kids. I will miss Jim.

Frank and family,
We are saddened at the passing of Jim. Although he was not the greatest boat driver in the world, he was an exceptional guy with a heart as big as all outdoors. Life wasn't always easy for him and yet he was never bitter or outwardly discouraged. We shall always remember his love of hospitality, his pride in his girls and his poor Boston accent in describing his "chowda" exploits.
By reason of our parents friendship, Jim always seemed like a member of our family ss well. May he rest in peace with your parents.

We were most fortunate to work closely with Jim for two years at Lake George Escape. I remember when
we were together attempting to fix
the computer cash register and email and he commented,"Why don't we simply use a cigar box and a memo pad?!" We will miss his dry wit and good heart. He enjoyed and cared for the international students and they undoubtedly will keep and cherish some of the Irishman's special recipes. I am so pleased that he was able to walk his daughter down the aisle before he passed on and we will most assuredly miss him with fondest memories. Here's to you Jim!

I met Jim in July 1971 when his brother Frank married my sister Roberta, and I remember him as a gregarious and social individual. I was kept apprised of his activities after that by Frank and Roberta - and I'm certain that his life was pretty much a continuation of the Jim Dever I met. That would definitely have been a good thing - for him, as well as his many contacts though the the years.
From the reports of Frank and Roberta I gained a sense of the closeness the family had maintained, and of the great loss they are feeling today. That rubbed off on me, as well. I'm sorry I had so little direct contact with Jim over the years, but at the same time, I feel I knew him. So, I extend my condolences to the family for the void left in their lives - at the same time I feel much of the same void, as part of that family...

I personally have had the pleasure of knowing Dever since the early 90's, I have enjoyed many conversations and a few "toddies" with him over the years. We recently opened CB's Spirits & Restaurant in Warrensburg where Jim was one of our visitors, we all will miss him dearly yet will remember the fun we shared. I was recently talking about my obsession with cheesecake, what did Dever do, brought me a whole cheesecake, I giggled and said "Dev, should I eat this or just smear it on my hips" his reply "Bethany, you're perfect no matter where you put it!!" So typical of him to always make you feel good. Bless all of you who knew him, family and friends.
Until we meet again Dever~
With love & sympathy,
Bethany & all at CB's Spirits & Restaurant

We had the privledge of getting to know Jim at Lake George Escape this last summer and were saddened to hear of his death.
Jim was a great chef and always brought me a sample of his latest dessert to satisfy my "sweet tooth." He knew I loved his Bread Pudding and he would check the cooler for any leftover to send home with me.
Jim really cared about the International Students he worked with and loved taking them "cruising" in his convertible.
He brought joy and smiles to all he met. We are thankful for his friendship. Chuck and Phyllis

Dever was like a brother and was such a big part of our family. My mother loved him dearly. I will always have a special place in my heart reserved just for him.
