Jay W. Ordway, 73, of State Route 28, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, April 6, 2011 at the Glens Falls Hospital following a courageous battle with cancer.
Born August 23, 1937 in North Creek, he was the son of the late Mose and Leona (Starbuck) Ordway.
Jay enlisted in the US Air Force in 1956 and was stationed in Japan and New Mexico before his honorable discharge.
Jay returned home and worked at local saw mills and Little Gore Ski Bowl in North Creek.
He joined the Teamsters Union 182 formerly of Plattsburgh and worked on such projects as State Rt. 28 north to Indian Lake, the IP Mill in Ticonderoga, Adirondack Northway and then with Anchor Motor Freight for 21 years hauling cars before retiring.
Jay married Mary Ann Lee on January 19, 1967 in Glens Falls. The couple have resided up on the Hudson all their time together.
His favorite pastimes included garage sales and operating their Antique Shop and spending time with his family especially his grandson, Jack. Jay also had a passion for heating his home with wood that he would cut and stack annually.
Besides his parents, his brother, John A. Ordway also predeceased him.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 44 years, Mary Ann Ordway of North Creek; his son, Joseph J. Ordway and his wife, Lisa of E. Hampton, CT; his daughter, Jill Ann Ordway Bailey and her husband, John of Glens Falls; one grandson, Jackson Joseph Ordway; three sisters, Janet Chase and her husband, Tom of SC, Joan Tanyous and her husband, Antony of MO; Jennie Mae Pierce and her companion, Jim of MA; his only surviving aunt, Helen Cornwall and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may call on Jay’s family from 2-4 pm, Sunday, April 10, 2011 at the Alexander-Baker Funeral Home, 3809 Main St., Warrensburg.
A funeral service to celebrate his life will follow the visitation at 4 pm Sunday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to American Cancer Society.
