Obituary of Norman A. Persons

Olmstedville: Norman A. Persons, 96, of County Route 29, passed away peacefully, Monday, March 30, 2015 at the Adirondack Tri-County Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. Born July 27, 1918 in North Creek, he was the son of the late Arthur and Gladys (Miner) Persons. Norman went to the one room schoolhouse in Minerva before attending Johnsburg Central School, from where he departed early to enter the workforce at a young age. He married Marion E. Knickerbocker in Minerva in 1942. Norm worked several jobs throughout the years, on a dairy farm, or whatever else provided for his family. He was a truck driver for Foote Trucking during the construction of the Warren County Airport, and hauled Ore from Tahawus to the train in North Creek. He later began employment at National Lead, where he worked in several capacities over a 33 year span. Upon his retirement in 1981 he spent time driving the stagecoach and train at Frontier Town in North Hudson. He enjoyed taking care of his property and farming to supply his family with the meat, vegetables, and dairy necessary. Norm enjoyed taking part in several community organizations, and was most recently a member of the Lighthouse Baptist Church in Pottersville, religion was always a top priority of his. Besides his parents, he is predeceased by his beloved wife of 67 years, Marion Persons, who passed away in 2010 following an accident, and a brother, Ernest Persons. He is survived by a daughter, Brenda Persons of Green Island; two sons, Edgar (Paula) Persons of Oakville, CT, and Malcolm (Cathy) Persons of Olmstedville; a brother, Erwin (Kay) Persons of Salt Lake City, UT; six granddaughters; Maria, Tina, Nicole, Wendy, Sarah, and Letitia, 13 great-grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter, and several nieces and nephews. Friends may call on Norman’s family from 11 am to 3 pm, Saturday, April 4, 2015 at the Alexander Funeral Home, 3809 Main St., Warrensburg. A funeral service to celebrate his life will immediately follow the visitation at 3 pm at the funeral home. Burial will be conducted later in the spring in Federal Flats Cemetery in Olmstedville. Family and friends are invited to the Pottersville Fire House immediately following the service for a time of sharing. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations in Norman’s memory to the Lighthouse Baptist Church, or a charity of one’s choice.
