Obituary of Brion J. Hammond

Saratoga Springs: Brion J. Hammond, of Allen Drive, passed away into the loving arms of the lord, Tuesday, February 3, 2009 at the Saratoga Hospital after a courageous battle with a long illness, surrounded by his loving family. Born November 4, 1951, in Ticonderoga, he was the son of the late Leland and Dorothy (Howe) Hammond. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. In the past, Brion worked with the City of Glens Falls Water Department and most recently he worked at Twin Pine Resort in Bolton Landing. Brion was a beloved son, brother, father, grandfather and friend. Brion enjoyed spending time with his family and treasured every moment with his grandchildren. Besides his parents, Brion was predeceased by his son, Joseph Lee, a brother, Gary Hammond, and the mother of his children, Terry Durkin. Survivors include his two sons, Brian J. Hammond and his companion, Mechylle Wood of Chestertown, and Steven A. Hammond and his wife Amanda of Hudson Falls; daughter, Dixie Durkin and her companion, John Porter of Glens Falls; three grandchildren, Emma Mae Hammond and Andon Joseph Hammond of Hudson Falls; Amber Ray Porter of Glens Falls; his long time loving companion, Donna Mayette; a sister, Lucielle (Chuck) Warner of Glens Falls; six brothers, David (Jane) Hammond of Pottersville, Philip Hammond of North Creek, Eugene Hammond of Whitehall, Mike Hammond of Pottersville, Dale (Lois) Hammond of Brant Lake; Bruce (Cindy) Hammond of Olmsteadville; and several nieces, nephews and friends. Friends may call on Brion’s family from 12-2 pm Friday at the Alexander Funeral Home, Inc, 4479 State Rt. 28, North River. A service to celebrate his life will follow the visitation Friday at the funeral home with the Rev. Lee B. Call, Pastor of the Faith Baptist Church in Warrensburg officiating. Spring burial with military honors will be in Federal Flats Cemetery, Olmsteadville. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donation to the Strong Memorial Hospital, 601 Elmwood Ave, Rochester, NY 14642.
