Obituary of Cora P. Waldron

North Creek: Cora P. Waldron, 84, was reunited with her beloved husband, Ivon after passing away on Thursday, May 4, 2006 at the Glens Falls Hospital following a long illness. Born February 22, 1922 in Stony Creek, she was the daughter of the late Howard and Eva (Eldridge) Knowlton. Following the passing of her father, she was raised by her mother and her step father, Howard VanAuken. Cora married Ivon D. Waldron on September 6, 1939 and the couple resided and raised their family in North Creek. She was an exceptional cook and worked at various establishments including, the Friends Lake Inn, Gore Mt. Ski Center, the North Creek Bowling Lanes and Adirondack Tri-County Health Care Center. Cora was recently presented an honorary lifetime trustee with the North Creek Baptist Church and was founder and instrumental with the church memory tree. She was a member of the former Wevertown Rebeka Lodge. Her favorite pastimes included crocheting, Bingo, going to garage sales and auctions and spending time with her family. She enjoyed doll collecting and was an avid gardener and loved flowers. Her husband of 55 years, Ivon D. Waldron died on December 7, 1994; her daughter, Cora “Pinky” Waldron died in 1943, her daughter, Carol Thomas died in 2002 granddaughters, Eva Pauline Tyrel died in 1967 and Jennifer Brown died in 1981. Her brothers, Eldridge, Gerald and Harold VanAuken have also predeceased her. Survivors include her son, Ivon H. Waldron and his wife, Rosalie of North Creek; her four daughters, Sharon Hammond and her husband, Ken of North Creek, Evelyn Dingee and her husband, Robert of Johnsburg, Ellen French and her husband, Jim of North Creek, Bonnie Brown and her husband, J Knox of Hudson Falls; 12 grandsons, six granddaughters, 21 great grandchildren,; sister, Isabelle Warrington and her husband, James of Glens Falls; two brothers, Howard VanAuken and his wife, Connie of Michigan, Herman VanAuken and his wife, Bell of Lake Luzerne; son in law, Bill Thomas of North Creek; sisters in law, Lena VanAuken of Corinth, Eleanor Pliscofsky of Lake Luzerne, Estella Waldron of Corinth; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends may call on Cora’s family from 2-4 and 7-9 pm Sunday at the Alexander Funeral Home, Inc, 4479 State Rt. 28, North River. Funeral services will be conducted 11 am Monday at the North Creek Baptist Church with Pastor Trudy Pettibone officiating. Burial will follow in Union Cemetery, North Creek.
