Obituary of James Richard Cashman

North River:
James Richard Cashman, 73, of State Route 28, passed away Sunday, July 19, 2015.
Born October 24, 1941 in the Bronx, he was the son of the late Richard and Helen (Bertuch) Cashman.
He graduated from Paul D. Schreiber High School in 1959, and later Adelphi College in 1964 with a degree in business administration.
Jim served in the National Guard.
Throughout the years, Jim worked as a plant manager in the food industry, and for Bingo King in Nebraska, later retiring as a car salesman for Smithtown Nissan in 2006.
Jim was an avid fan of the Yankees and Giants, and enjoyed NASCAR, even making many trips to the Dover Speedway with his son, Marc. He loved visiting his son, Jason in China and Ireland, and roadtrips with his wife in his red Miata, travelling from the Rocky Mountains to Key West. He took great pride in landscaping and building various things around his house, a deck, garden bench, curved wooden staircases in the yard, and dollhouses for his granddaughters.
Jim married his high school sweetheart, Sandy (Dietz Morgan) on April 21, 2007 in North River.
He was a member and trustee of the North River United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Sandra Cashman; daughter, Cristen (Christopher) Bendowski of Rockville Centre; sons, Jason (Mariam) Cashman of NYC, and Marc (Lori) Cashman of Huntington; a brother, Richard (Karen) Cashman of Smithtown; grandchildren, Cate, Connor, Leyla, Riz, Matthew, and Paige; step-children, Carolyn (Bill) Cameron, Elizabeth Morgan, Tom (Becky) Morgan; step-grandchildren, Gerry, Sandra, Billy, Duncan, Samantha, Noah, and Grace.
Friends may call on Jim’s family from 4 to 7 pm, Friday, July 24, 2015 at Alexander Funeral Home, Inc. 3809 Main St., Warrensburg.
A memorial service to celebrate his life will follow the visitation at 7 pm, Friday, at the funeral home with Pastor Stephen Andrews officiating.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations in James’ memory to the North River UMC, PO Box 218, North River, NY 12856 or the CR Wood Cancer Center, 102 Park St., Glens Falls, NY 12801.
