Obituary of Roy R. Palmer

Please share a memory of Roy to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Olmstedville: Roy R. Palmer, 75, of County Route 29, passed away peacefully Wednesday, December 23, 2015 at Adirondack Tri-County Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, surrounded by his loving family. Born March 17, 1940 in Minerva, he was the son of the late Russell F. and Eleanor (Hammond) Palmer. Roy was a graduate of Minerva Central School. He was a cook in his early years, something he always enjoyed, as well as a car salesman at various locations for many years. Roy loved tinkering on his cars and never failed to have an old pocket watch or two for sale. A little duck tape, some auto body putty and a good dose of WD-40 and most everything could be put in working order. He loved watching his sports, counting on his Red Sox’s to break his little brother’s Yankee heart. If a charity dinner was needed, Roy was always there to do his part. Roy truly enjoyed the company of his large family. One of Roy’s last wishes was that we hold the Palmer Family Christmas party no matter what happened to him. In addition to his parents, Roy was predeceased by his sister, Mary DeRiso, and Pam’s son, Randy Goodspeed. He is survived by his children, Keith (Sonoe) Palmer of Minerva, and Dawn Montgomery of Albany; ex-wife and the mother of his children, Brenda McNally; his companion and soul mate, Pam Goodspeed of Olmstedville; Pam’s children, Debbie, Elaine, Ronny, Sandy, and Jeff; Roy and Pam shared fourteen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; surviving siblings include, Anna Palmer, Joyce (Sam) McCall all of South Glens Falls, Catherine (Malcolm) Persons of Olmstedville, John (Rita) Palmer of Schroon Lake, Paul (Terri) Palmer of Olmstedville, Chet (Diane) Palmer of Olmstedville, Linda (Bill) Shanley of Hudson Falls, and Daniel (Deb) Palmer of Minerva. He also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. From this earth our beloved brother passes, the oldest of ten, the big brother and sometimes father to the rest of us. We rest easier knowing Mom will be there to guide him on his journey. The end came so quickly we hardly had the time to say the things we should, but we remember the good times we shared and we laugh at the times that were not so good. As we cry for our loss, we take comfort knowing we are better as a family just because of the brother he was. He leaves us for now but his spirit will forever guide us as we move toward the ultimate Palmer Family Party. Friends may call on Roy’s family from 5 to 8 pm, Monday, December 28, 2015, at Alexander Funeral Home, 3809 Main St., Warrensburg. A funeral service to celebrate his life will be conducted at 10 am, Tuesday, December 29, 2015, at the funeral home with Roy’s cousin, Joseph Provoncha, officiating. Burial will follow in Federal Flats Cemetery, Olmstedville. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations in Roy’s memory to the Minerva Service Organization, or the Pottersville Fire Department.
