Obituary of Charles E. Kays

Olmstedville: Charles Edward Kays, 94, formerly of Donnelly Rd., passed away peacefully, Sunday, July 17, 2011 at the Adirondack Tri-County Health and Rehab. Center in North Creek. Born July 27, 1916 in Pottersville, he was the son of the late Charles and Jennie (Beadnell) Kays. Charlie married Margaret Elizabeth George on Oct. 3, 1953. He was known for his paddle making and many years of service to the North Woods Club in Minerva. On September 16, 1987, Charlie was given an honorary membership to the North Woods Club. He also worked for the Minerva Highway Dept. In 1961 Charlie became the owner of the first snowmobile in Minerva. In addition to the many fond memories at North Woods, he also enjoyed reminiscing about the three summers he spent as an observer in the Vanderwhacker Mt. Fire Tower. His beloved wife, Margaret passed away on July 20, 1999 after 46 years of marriage. His sister, Mary and brother, Bert have also predeceased him. He leaves behind a stepdaughter, Mary K. Foor of Beechwood, PA; step grandchildren, many friends and beloved staff at the Nursing Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 am Thursday at St. Joseph’s RC Church in Olmstedville with Fr. Richard Sturtz officiating. Rite of Committal will follow in Federal Flats Cemetery, Olmstedville. At Charlie’s request, there are no calling hours scheduled. Charlie was very happy at the nursing home and it soon became "his" home and the staff soon became "his" family. Thank you all for his wonderful care.
