Obituary of John L. Smith

Please share a memory of John to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Stony Creek: John L. Smith, III, 34, of Hadley Road, passed away unexpectedly, Sunday, July 1, 2018 at a friend’s home following a courageous yearlong battle with cancer. Born August 3, 1983 in Glens Falls, he was the son of the late John Jr., and Darlene (Rathbun) Smith. Following his graduation from Warrensburg Central School in 2001, John enlisted in the US Army and proudly served his country overseas for two tours in Iraq until his honorable discharge in 2005. John was a “Jack of All Trades” and could always be found tinkering on anything motorized from weed eaters to Broncos. If it didn’t run when he got his hands on it, it always ran when it left. He had an infectious smile, one of a kind laugh, jokes for days, and was always the life of the party. He will be greatly missed by his many friends and family. He is survived by his son, John L. Smith, IV and daughter, Isabella M. Smith, both of Stony Creek; his sister, Brittany Smith of The Catskills; his grandfather, Richard Lamphier of Lake George; his aunt, Cheryl Kenyon and her husband, Marc of Athol; uncles, David and Marshall Lamphier; niece and nephew, William Neske, V, and Eva Lynn Kroll; his companion of 5 years, Amanda Lang and her daughter, Anna Lang of Warrensburg. A graveside service with military honors will be conducted at 11 am, Wednesday, July 11, 2018, at Gerald B.H. Solomon, Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Rd., Schuylerville. Any family and friends that wish to attend are invited to join a funeral procession that will be departing from the Alexander Funeral Home, 3809 Main St., Warrensburg at 9:30 am, sharp. John’s family would like to thank his many lifelong friends that have always been there to lend a helping hand. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations in John’s memory to the Wounded Warrior Project at www.woundedwarriorproject.org/donate.
