Obituary of Doris F. Orton

Warrensburg: Doris F. “Dot” Orton, of Fourth Ave., passed away peacefully, Tuesday evening, February 28, 2006 at her home surrounded by her loving family. Born November 22, 1916 in Glens Falls, she was the daughter of the late Daniel and Marion (Reirdon) Hewitt. A lifelong resident of Warrensburg, Dot graduated from the Warrensburg High School. She enjoyed working for Dr. John Cunningham as the family nanny and later as the doctor’s office assistant in his medical practice. She continued in the medical field serving as the Nurses Aid at the Warrensburg Central School before retiring. For many summers, Dot worked for the Lake George Chamber of Commerce Tourism Bureau. She was a longtime member of the Church of the Holy Cross in Warrensburg. Besides her parents, her husband, Walker S. Orton died in 1955; her son, Barry E. Aldrich died in 1991; her close friend, Robert L. Thompson died in 2002; her siblings, Beecher, Daniel, Ruth, Marie Hewitt and Louise Smith have also predeceased her. Survivors included her son, Dale “Beaver” Aldrich and his wife, Glenna of Stony Creek; her daughter, P. Jinx Monahan and her husband, Kevin of Salem; grandchildren, J Aldrich and his wife, Fawn of TX, Stacey Angell and her husband, Chris of Queensbury, Barry Aldrich II of Thurman, great grandchildren, Nathan and Masen Angell of Queensbury; one niece and several nephews. Friends may call on Dot’s family from 5-7 pm today (Thursday) at the Alexander-Baker Funeral Home, 3809 Main St., Warrensburg. A requiem mass will be offered 11 am Friday at the Church of the Holy Cross, 3764 Main St., Warrensburg with Fr. Charles B. King Jr. officiating and Fr. John Cornelius, Rector assisting. Dot’s family invites everyone to gather in the Parish Hall of the church for a reception following the memorial service. Private burial will take place in the Warrensburg Cemetery at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Glens Falls Association for the Blind, 144 Ridge St., Glens Falls, NY 12801 or to the Alter Guild, Church of the Holy Cross, 3764 Main St., Warrensburg, NY 12885.
