Obituary of Pansy A. Allen

Bakers Mills: Pansy A. Allen, 95, formerly of Edwards Hill Road, passed away peacefully, Monday, February 12, 2018 at Elderwood of North Creek following a brief illness. Born July 10, 1922 in Bakers Mills, she was the daughter of the late John and Hester (Rist) Dalaba. She married Harold Allen on October 4, 1937 and settled in Bakers Mills and began their family. Pansy and Harold were well known as foster parents to over 50 children. Three foster children, Dixie Potter, Marvin Veile, and Anne Lemery felt like they adopted her. She took comfort in rearranging her home, furniture shopping after her husband went to work. Besides her parents, she is predeceased by her beloved husband of 67 years, Harold Allen, two daughters, Marlene Harppinger, Linda Whitney; son, Edward Allen; granddaughter, Shelly Rose Cleveland. She is survived by 3 sons, Melvin Allen and his wife, Sue of Bakers Mills, Timothy Allen and his wife, Lois of Corinth, and George Allen of Lake George; 5 daughters, Shirley Cleveland and her husband, J. Rolland of Chestertown, Delora Millington and her husband, Gary of Chestertown, and Laura Allen of Watertown; her brother, Oliver Dalaba of FL; as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Friends may call on Pansy’s family from 1-2 pm Saturday, February 17, at the Sodom Community Church. A funeral service to celebrate her life will follow at 2pm at the church with Rev. Ronald Allen, Pansy’s nephew, officiating. Burial will be conducted in the spring in Garnet Lake Wesleyan Cemetery. Pansy’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Lisa LaFountain, Dr. Hindson and staff at the Elderwood Nursing Home, who gave her such compassionate care.
