Robert F. Knipe, 82, formerly of Warrensburg and Zepher Hills, FL passed away on Sunday, November 27th, 2005 at the Eden Park Health Care Center in Glens Falls, following a long and courageous battle with cancer.
He was born on April 22, 1923 in Warrensburg. He was the son of the late John and Elizabeth Miner Knipe.
Robert graduated from Warrensburg Schools and was a graduate of Ithaca College class of 1947 with a Bachelors degree in physical education.
Mr. Knipe served the US Army from 1943-46, he served in the Pacific Theater and was stationed in Okinawa during WWII. Robert was assigned to the 10th Army division that traveled with a pack of equipment carrying mules. Before Jeeps the army used mules to transport equipment, Robert’s mule was Babe.
During his time at Ithaca College he pitched for the varsity baseball team and was later signed to play professional baseball by the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1948.
Robert had worked for Morris Chain and then later was employed as a Custodian for the Glens Falls High School for over 20 years retiring in 1985.
Mr. Knipe had a great love for his pet cats, Bingo, Tigger and Mr. Cat. Robert also adored his sister in laws cat, Abby, who visited him at Eden Park.
Robert was an established song writer, writing mostly country and gospel songs, two songs, “What More Can I Ask?” professionally performed by Steve Warren, and “Resurrection” performed by Ron Deloren. He also enjoyed singing the songs he had been writing for over 40yrs

He married Phyllis Hall in March of 1964 in Maryland, she passed away on November 15, 1989. He is also predeceased by his 1st wife Josephine Knipe and a brother Jack Rye.
Robert is survived by his daughter Barbara Knipe of Palm Bay, FL.; a sister in law, Nancy Hill of Glens Falls; a brother Richard Knipe of Utica; and his companion of 12 years Ellen Prespare of Zephyr Hills, FL and Warrensburg.
Graveside funeral services will be conduct at Warrensburg Cemetery in the Spring.
