Obituary of Floyd J. Bombard

Please share a memory of Floyd to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Lake George: Floyd Joseph Bombard, Sr., the third son of the late Walter Curtis and Mae Louise (Moore) Bombard, left this earth, Friday, September 18, 2015, at his home, surrounded by his loving family, and was reunited with the loved ones who passed before him; he was 69 years young. Born March 17, 1946 in Glens Falls Hospital, Floyd was a St. Patrick’s Day baby; this became his favorite time of the year, knowing someone would stop by and share a libation or two… Floyd was a lifelong resident of the area and a graduate of Lake George High School, Class of 1964. Shortly thereafter he went to work at International Paper in Corinth until 1969. He married Dorothy “Dottie” May Sanders of West Glens Falls on August 22, 1964 at the home of his parents in Batesville, just north of the Village of Lake George. The couple was married for 51 years, and Floyd affectionately referred to his bride as “Punky”. He was employed by several area marinas, Earl’s Ford with friend, Maynard Ryther, the Town of Lake George with the late Robert H. Lanfear and David E. Grant, where he was known by his nickname of “Fuzzy”, and occasionally with Jim Schoonover and Shawn Callahan, building docks and log homes. During the spring of 1978, Floyd acquired Lake Pool Service from the late Floyd M. Boyea, he operated the business until 2006, when he suffered a traumatic brain injury working on a pool. He was an exempt member of the Lake George Fire Department, where he was elected Second Assistant Chief in 1975. Hunting and ice fishing were two of Floyd’s passions, being taught to him by his father, traditions carried on by his family; racing was another, whether it be cars or snowmobiles. In the ‘70’s and ‘80’s, you could find him at a local stock car track, either as a spectator or helping on the pit crews of childhood friend, Donnie VanGuilder or good friend, John “AJ” Lutes. Floyd always attended his son, Floyd’s motorcycle races at Bryar Motorsport Park, now known as New Hampshire Speedway. Tony Stewart and AJ Foyt were his favorite drivers. Besides spending time visiting with his grandchildren, Floyd loved “building” his famous chili on his kitchen woodstove, sports, and watching his LA Lakers and Chicago White Sox, as well as scraping metal with his son, Toby; the money they earned was used to buy presents, whether birthday or Christmas, for someone else, and never on himself. He was a very giving person, and enjoyed saving his one dollar bills to buy his “Little Punkin”, Chanel, a 1963 Ford Falcon for her 16th birthday. Floyd was also proud of his accomplishment of completing 307 word search books. In addition to his parents and afore mentioned friends, Floyd was predeceased by his loving brother, Howard, father-in-law, Robert R. Sanders, Sr., brother-in-law, Michael Johnson, best man at his wedding, Harold McNeill, cousin, Gladys (Monroe) McNeill, and good friends, Tommy Whitcomb, Leon Gonyea, Darwin and Gary Frasier, and his favorite furry sidekick, Bucky Dog. He is survived by his wife, Dottie; sons, Floyd Bombard, Jr. and Toby Bombard; a daughter, Chanel (Jordan) Monroe; grandchildren, Frank (Kristen), Floyd (Tristina), Carly, and Lucy; great-granddaughter, Paetyn; sister, Jo Marie Johnson; sister-in-law, Barbara Bombard; mother-in-law, Shirley Sanders; former daughter-in-law, Mary Jo McCartin; “adoptive sons”, Tim Ryther, Billy Morehouse, and Shawn Callahan; and several nieces, nephews, and extended family members, including his granddogs and cats. Friends may call on Floyd’s family from 11 am to 1 pm, Saturday, September 26, 2015 at Alexander Funeral Home, Inc., 3809 Main St., Warrensburg. A memorial service will immediately follow the visitation at 1 pm, at the funeral home. Floyd’s family wishes to thank the loving and compassionate people who cared for him throughout his illness; Dr. Suzanne Bergin, Lisa, Terry, Jackie, and Joe from Fort Hudson, Dr. Vincent Cooper and Nina, the continuing loving care of his sister, Jo Marie, our angel on earth, and to Mary Jo and Slugger Corlew for their tender kindness. He had a lust for life and he lived it to the fullest, never stopping. He was our Energizer Bunny, we will sorely miss him, and he will forever be in our hearts. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the American Alzheimer’s Association at www.alz.org. “Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming, “WOW! What a ride!” Please visit www.alexanderfh.net for online guestbook, condolences, and directions.
