Obituary of James K. McGowin

Johnsburg: James “Jim” McGowin, 72, passed away peacefully the afternoon of, Friday, January 12, 2018 at his home, with his loving family by his side. Born October 30, 1945 in Southampton, he was the son of Earle (Cis) McGowin of Southampton, and the late James A. McGowin, Jr. Jim graduated High School in Southampton in 1963, Delhi College in 1965, and the University of Bridgeport in 1968. He was a decorated Veteran of the Vietnam War. Jim’s working career included 39 years at Gore Mountain Ski Center, Lake George Park Commission Boat Inspection at Dunham’s Bay, Warren County Social Services, and several years as a self-employed carpenter and mason. In addition to his mother, Jim is survived by his wife, Kathleen McGowin; sons, Patrick (Kerri) McGowin, and Michael (Brittney) McGowin; beloved grandsons, Liam, Owen, and Tanner McGowin; sister, Judith (Charles) Lattanzio; brother, Bruce (Karyn) McGowin, and many nieces and nephews. Jim’s family would like to thank Dr. Mason, Barb Moehringer, and all the staff of the C.R. Wood Cancer Center, as well as nurses on T2 and T6 at Glens Falls Hospital, Hudson Headwaters Health Network, Warren County Health Services (Lisa, Danielle, and Moe), Eileen, Shane, Jon, Julie, Chris, Robin, and all of their extended Hog family. Friends may call on Jim’s family from 4-7 pm, Wednesday, January 17, 2018 at Alexander Funeral Home, Inc., 3809 Main St., Warrensburg. A memorial service to celebrate his life will immediately follow the visitation at 7:00, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations in Jim’s memory to Leather Stocking Honor Flight, PO Box 621, Cobleskill, NY 12043, so that all of our Veterans may have the Hero’s welcome home that they deserve.
