Obituary of Irene J. Miller

Speculator: Irene June Miller, 92, formerly of Rush (Monroe Co.), passed away peacefully Friday, June 13, 2014, at her brother's home in Speculator. Born March 24, 1922 in Dundee, she was the daughter of the late Charles D. and Gladys R. (Stanton) Smith. Irene graduated high school in Henrietta, and later married Gordon E. Miller in November 1941; the couple spent 67 years together before his passing in 2008. She was employed for many years by the then, Monroe County Hospital. She and enjoyed hunting and fishing trips throughout the United States and Canada with her husband; they were avid golfers as well. She also enjoyed family gatherings, with many nieces and nephews, on both sides of the Miller and Smith families. Besides her parents and late husband, Irene was predeceased by her brothers, William and Frederick Smith. She is survived by her brothers, Charles D. Smith and his wife, Charlotte, of Speculator, and Harry Smith, and his wife, Dorah, of Brevard, NC; and two special cousins Mary Pierson of Penn Yann and Charlotte DiGenarro of Hammondsport. At Irene's request there will be no calling hours scheduled. A memorial services to celebrate her life will take place at 11 am, Saturday, June 28, 2014 at Rush Methodist Church, with internment to follow in Pine Hill Cemetery, Rush. Locally, friends are invited to celebrate her life at 1:30 pm, Saturday, July 12, 2014 at Grace United Methodist Church, Rt. 8, Speculator.
