Obituary of Edward F. Damp

Warrensburg: Edward F. Damp, 85, of James Street, passed away Tuesday, December 27, 2016 after being stricken at his home. Born December 10, 1931 in Albany, he was the son of the late Wilbur and Mary (Devlin) Damp. Following his graduation from Albany High School, Ed enlisted in the United States Air Force, proudly serving his country in Bremerhaven, Germany until his honorable discharge. Ed began his employment with the NYS Thruway Authority as a draftsman in the engineering department, where he remained for over 30 years. He and his family relocated from Albany to Warrensburg in 1965 while still working at the Thruway Authority. Ed was a community minded man, quietly volunteering his services with the construction of Blister Hill, the 4-H Fair, and Richards Library. He’ll be remembered for his quick wit and dry sense of humor. Besides spending time with his family, Ed enjoyed his HAM radio, KB2UKT. In addition to his parents, Ed is predeceased by a brother, Wilbur Damp, and sister, Helen (Damp) LaMont. He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Alice Damp of Warrensburg; his three daughters, Sue Sawn and her husband, Jerry of Queensbury, Kathleen Wright and her husband, Fred of Sandy, UT and their son, Tyler, and Linda Damp of Greenfield, MA. Friends may call on Ed’s family from 1 to 3 pm, Saturday, December 31, 2016 at Alexander Funeral Home, 3809 Main St., Warrensburg. A funeral service to celebrate his life will immediately follow the visitation at 3 pm at the funeral home, with Sister Linda Hogan officiating. Burial will take place in St. Cecilia’s Cemetery in the spring. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the Warrensburg Volunteer Fire Company or Warrensburg Volunteer EMS, Richards Library, or Cornell Cooperative Extension 4-H Program.
