Lake George:
Michael G. Johnson, 59, of State Route 9, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, October 12, 2011 at his home with his loving family at his side, following a courageous battle with cancer.
Born November 19, 1951 in Glens Falls, he was the son of the late B. Lloyd and Martha (Abbott) Johnson.
Michael grew up in South Glens Falls and graduated from South Glens Falls High School. He went on to graduate from Union College in Schenectady, achieving his BA in Civil Engineering.
He received his Professional Engineering License and began his career with NYS Department of Environmental Conservation. He worked with DEC for over 34 years, retiring this past July.
Michael married Jo Marie Bombard on October 6, 1985 and the couple spent 26 wonderful years together.
He had a passion for working with children and youth, bringing the gospel of Christ though various activities, including outdoor sports, plays, skits, clown ministry and music.
He was an avid outdoorsman and animal lover who enjoyed, hunting, fishing, canoeing, hiking, and competitive archery. He was an Eagle Scout, who donated countless hours volunteering with the Boy Scouts.
He was very active with the Lake George Youth Commission as a Pop Warner and Little League Baseball coach.
Michael was very resourceful, putting his engineering degree to good use by fixing anything and everything at his home and his neighbors’ homes as well. Over the years, he helped build and repair a number of churches in the northeast, including his home church, Church of the King on Bay Road, Queensbury.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Jo Marie Johnson of Lake George; his children, Walter J. Bombard of Wells, VT, Lena M. Bombard of Saranac Lake, Michael B. Johnson and his wife, Jennifer of Warrensburg, Deidre M. Johnson of Lake George; honorary grandchildren, Ellie and Caleb Quigan of Hudson Falls; his siblings, David Johnson and his wife, Sharon of Land O Lakes, FL, Karen Reynolds and her husband, Bill of Greenfield Center, Paul Johnson and his wife, Sue of Melbourne, FL; along with several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Friends may call on Mike’s family from 1-3 pm Saturday, October 15 at the Church of the King, 685 Bay Road, Queensbury.
A memorial service to celebrate his life will follow the visitation at 3 pm, Saturday at the church with Rev. Dr. Bill Davidson, Pastor officiating.
A reception will take place after the celebration.
Burial in Evergreen Cemetery, Lake George will be held privately at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations in Mike's name to Church of the King, Children’s Ministry or to the Church of the King Liberian Outreach.
