Obituary of Velda M. Armstrong

Velda M. Armstrong, 86, of Washer Hill Rd., passed away Friday, July 7, 2006 at the Glens Falls Hospital following a long respiratory illness.
Born July 27, 1919 in Johnsburg, she was the daughter of the late Raymond and Vira (Harrington) Morehouse.
Velda was a lifelong resident of the area and married Donald I. Armstrong on October 5, 1940. The couple resided and raised their family on Washer Hill Road.
Velda cherished raising her children, but also worked diligently has a housekeeper for the Hudnut family, Northwoods Club and for over 50 years for Mrs. Helen Mitchell.
She was a lifelong member and cornerstone of the Johnsburg United Methodist Church. She had a strong devotion and total commitment to her family, church and community. Her generosity of time, money and service to people she loved , her unconditional love to everyone who was lucky enough to enter her life and her determination to improve anyone in need by the labor of her hand and giving spirit will be her legacy.
She enjoyed tending to her flowers and her garden.
Besides her parents, her brothers, Vernon, Preston, Frank and Max Morehouse and her half sister, June Bolton have all predeceased her.
Survivors besides her husband, Don, of 65 years, include her children, Janet Zack and her husband, David of Queensbury, David Armstrong and his wife, Nancy of Queensbury; her grandchildren, Julie Curtis and her husband, Rick, Jennifer Zack and her fiancée, Gary Hoover Jr., Kate, Luke and Adam Armstrong; one great granddaughter, Madison Curtis; her brother, Karl Morehouse and his wife, Rosie of Queensbury; her half brothers and sisters, Anthony Morehouse and his wife, Heidi of Warrensburg, Mike Morehouse of Arkansas, Phyllis Shuler and her husband, Charles of Northville, Jane Allison and her husband, Joe of Corinth, Ann Monger and her husband, Sigh of Queensbury, Mary Brassart of Corinth, Brenda Morgan and her husband, Timothy of Warrensburg, William Duggan and his wife, Patricia of Warrensburg, Katherine Lapell and her husband, David of Texas; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may call on Velda’s family from 5-8 pm Sunday at the Alexander-Baker Funeral Home, 3809 Main St., Warrensburg.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 am Monday at the Johnsburg United Methodist Church with Pastor Jim Knapp officiating.
Burial will follow in Bates Cemetery, Johnsburg.
Memorials may take the form of donations to the Johnsburg United Methodist Church, Johnsburg, NY 12843.
