Obituary of Hilda I. West

North Creek: Hilda I. West, 92, of North Creek, passed away on March 25, 2018 at Glens Falls Hospital. Born August 6, 1925 in Glens Falls, she was the daughter of the late Leroy and Roxanne (Hill) Fish. She worked many years as a home health aide taking care of aged and disabled patients who greatly appreciated her visits. She enjoyed making apple pies for friends and family; going on rides with her neighbor, Clara West; feeding and watching her birds and planting flowers. She was proud of the china hutch she made in Bob Savarie’s adult shop class at Minerva Central School. Interestingly, in 1942, during World War II, Hilda was the youngest trainee of the Warrensburg Aircraft Warning Service where she was trained to spot enemy planes entering American airspace. She was proud to do her part during the war while her husband was a U.S. Army Staff sergeant fighting in Europe. Hilda was a great mother, grandmother, and friend and loved by many. Hilda was predeceased by her husband, Earl; son, Roy; sisters, Loretta, Hazel, Pat, Barbra, and Pearl; and brothers, Lloyd, Leo, and Frank. She is survived by her son Earl Jr. of Minerva; son John and his wife, Laura Mae of North Creek; sister, Fay (Morgan) Crandall of Warrensburg; 7 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. A funeral service to celebrate her life will be conducted at 12 noon, Wednesday, March 28, 2018 at the Warrensburg First United Methodist Church, 3890 Main St., Warrensburg with Rev. Stephen Andrews, Pastor, officiating. Friends may call on Hilda’s family one hour prior to the service at the church. Spring Burial will be conducted in Minerva Baptist Cemetery.
