Olmstedville: William H. West, Sr., 75, of County Route 29, passed away peacefully Sunday, January 17, 2016 at Glens Falls Hospital. Born December 26, 1940 in Glens Falls, he was the son of the late Howard Milton and Leona (LeMay) West. Bill graduated from Pottersville Central School and later honorably served his country during the Vietnam Conflict as a Naval SEAL from 1958-1962. He was employed by the maintenance department at Johnsburg Central School for over 16 years prior to retiring. In addition to spending time with his family, Bill enjoyed hunting, fishing, and his best friend, his dog, Rascal. Besides his parents, Bill was predeceased by an infant daughter, Kelly West, a son, William Smith, and two sisters, Joan West and Nancy Amell. He is survived by his beloved wife of 33 years, Beverly West; children, Michelle (John) Murphy, William (Laurie) West, Jr., Kerri (Michael) Burgin, Robert (Stacey White) West, Valerie (David) Greco, Kenneth (Rhea) Smith, Karen (Ronnie Pratt) TenEyck, Michael (Lori) Smith, and Sandy Smith; siblings, Howard “Dusty” West and Barbara Dunkley. He also leaves behind several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins. At the family’s request there will be no calling hours or funeral services scheduled. Friends and family are encouraged to gather in celebration of Bill’s life from 6-8 pm, Thursday, January 21, 2016 at the North Creek Volunteer Fire Department, Main St., North Creek; please feel free to bring a dish and a memory to share.
