Obituary of Robert F. Davis

Winnebago, MN Robert F. Davis, 90, a former resident of Warrensburg, passed away Wednesday, March 11, 2009 at St. Mary’s Hospital Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, following a brief illness. Born August 1, 1918 in Glens Falls, he was the son of the late Robert and Satie (Whittmore) Davis. At the time of his birth, his father presented the doctor with a new piglet in exchange for his services delivering his son. Robert was raised among the hills and farms of the Adirondacks and always knew where his home and heart were. He served his home and his country during WWII. After the war, Robert returned to his mountains, and worked for the "Rocky Ridge" dude ranch, where he met and married Nickie Spoto. He re-entered the Army, and served an additional 20 years. Following his honorable discharge, he returned to Warrensburg, which was always home, no matter how far they roamed. He sometimes disagreed with his countries policies, but never with his America, occasionally disapproved of someone’s choices, but always believed in their right to choose. He treated all equally and expected the same in return. He always remained devoted to his family, his home, his beliefs, and his country. That devotion is the gift he gave us, and the standard we will always strive to achieve. Thank you pop, we miss you... Besides his parents, he is predeceased by his sisters: Hattie Larrow and Elda Monroe. Robert is loved and missed by his beloved wife of 61 years, Nickie; his son, Bobby Davis; his daughters, Kathleen Jacobsen and her husband, Lenny, Laurie Etchverry and her husband, Martin; his sister, Abbie Hastings; his brother, Clifton Davis and his wife, Alice; his grandchildren, Robert, Christi, Cambria, Hannah, Farrah, Tessah, and Wyatt, and his great grandchildren, Kayla, Sierra, Douglas, Garrett, and Kylie; along with several nieces, nephews, friends, and acquaintances. Friends may call on Robert’s family from 6-8 pm, Tuesday, March 17, 2009 at the Alexander-Baker Funeral Home, 3809 Main St., Warrensburg. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 am Wednesday at the funeral home with Rev. Richard C. Leonard, Pastor of the Warrensburg Free Methodist Church, officiating.
