Warrensburg:
It is with saddened hearts we mourn the passing of Carol Flynn, 87, of River Street. Carol passed away peacefully on Monday, March 21, 2016 at Westmount Health Facility in Queensbury.
Born June 6, 1928 in Long Beach, Long Island, she was the daughter of the late Dante and Eveline (Tancredi) DiGiacomo.
Carol was multitalented and expressed herself through many genres of art in her personal and professional life. She was a homemaker, mother and loyal friend. Her generosity and fiery personality will be sorely missed.
As a young lady in living in Long Beach, Carol completed cosmetology school and earned a living as a hairdresser. She told of having Jimmy Durante as a client among others. After moving up north she was employed by Erlangers Department Store as a commercial artist. Carol was responsible drawing the fashion ads to be printed in the weekly newspaper. She also waited tables at the Colonial Arms and the Tiki in Lake George. She was a sign painter for Magic Forest, 1000 Acres Ranch and several other local businesses. It would not be unusual to find a stock ca rparked in the driveway which she would be adorning with names and numbers.
Carol was a member of the Warrensburg VFW Women's Auxilary and an Honorary Member of Over-the-Edge Quilters and Crocheters.
She crocheted and donated many throw blankets for the veterans at the Stratton VA Hospital in Albany as well as newborn baby hats and booties to various area hospitals. Carol donated many handmade quilts to the Double H Hole in the Woods.
She loved country music and as a young woman, played the upright bass with a local country band.
Most of all she loved spending time with friends and family.
Besides her parents, Carol was predeceased by her beloved husband of 45 years, Harold Flynn, and stepson, Frederick Flynn.
She is survived by four children, Linda Quick and her companion Denny of Guilderland, James Parrish and his wife Brenda of Warrensburg, Marianne Parrish and her companion Danielle Bushey of Queensbury, and her devoted son Patrick Flynn of Warrensburg who cared tirelessly for her throughout her life and especially in her last days; grandchildren Michael, Amy, Erika, Meredith, Nevin,Jonathan, Adam, Jon, Kevin and Spencer; step-children, Clarissa Reynolds of Warrensburg, Janet Freebern and her husband Tim of LaGrangeville; one sister Constance Hykys and her husband Conrad of Manchester Center, Vermont; sister-in-law Karen Monroe, and her husband Wayne of Chestertown. She also leaves behind several great-grandchildren, neices, nephews and cousins.
Carol spent the last two years at West Mount Health Facility where she enjoyed making new friends and visiting with old ones. We would like to thank the entire staff for the care given to Carol throughout this time.
At Carol's request, there are no calling hours scheduled.
