Please share a memory of Bessie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Warrensburg: Bessie C. French, 77, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, March 31, 2007 at the Glens Falls Hospital. Born on February 20, 1930, she was the seventh child (out of 10) born to George and Julia Bennett. Bess graduated from Warrensburg Central School in 1948. She married Carl E. French on November 13, 1948 and together they began their journey in Bolton Landing. They affectionately were known to one another as "Pearl and Gus." Carl referred to her as "his Pearl" because she was the gem of his life. Bess worked locally for a short time as a young woman. After beginning her family, however, she chose to devote her life to them. She was the epitome of a devoted homemaker, mother, wife and later in life, grandmother. Bessie's kitchen table housed her favorite coffee clutch, including her special niece, Barbie Anderson. She enjoyed traveling to Florida in her RV with family, camping in the Adirondacks and a roaring fire on her back patio in the summer. Most of all, she enjoyed being in her kitchen - cooking and feeding family and friends. In addition to her parents, Bessie was predeceased by her husband of 46 years, Carl. Also predeceasing her were six siblings including Beecher Bennett, Hazel Rounds, Lena Parker, Gladys Tanner Delorenzo, Beatrice LaGoy. She also mourned the loss of her two sisters-in-law, Edna Barrett and Joyce Kingsley. Survivors include her four children, Steve and his wife Nancy, Darlene Sherman, Tammy Fish, Melissa French and her "adopted" daughter Annie. Her beloved grandchildren, Cecily Flynn, Stevie French, Carla Steves, Bruce Sherman and Ralph Fish. Great-grandchildren include Isabella, Gabrielle and Alyssa Flynn and Dustin and Audrey Steves. Bess is also survived by her sisters Isabelle Dickinson, Peggy Olden, Mildred Johnson and Bertha Brown. Bess appreciated the attention and care she received from the Warrensburg EMS, the nurses at Warren County Health Services and the helpful staff at Lincare. Friends may call on Bessie’s family from 5-8 pm Monday at the Alexander-Baker Funeral Home, 3809 Main St, Warrensburg. Funeral services will be conducted 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
