Obituary of Allan L. DeLong

Indian Lake: Allan L. DeLong, 64, of Big Brook Road, passed away peacefully, Monday, September 5, 2011 at his companion’s home in Warrensburg following a courageous battle with cancer. Born July 26, 1947 in East Clarendon, VT, he was the son of the late Gordon and Helen (Quimby) DeLong. Allan began his working career at International Paper in Ticonderoga and also as a stone mason. Most recently, he was employed for the town of Indian Lake. Besides spending time with his family, he enjoyed working on small engines in his shop, taking long walks by the river to listen to the sounds of nature, drawing, fishing, and his favorite cartoons. Besides his parents, he is predeceased by his three brothers: Valgene, Lionel, and Todd DeLong; two sisters: April (DeLong) Crosse and Caroline (DeLong) Simmons. His step-grandchild, Dominick Prosser; and nephews: James and Andrew DeLong. He leaves behind his companion and caregiver for many years, Carrie Tower, who provided Allan with comfort and compassionate care throughout his illness; his two sons: Allan DeLong, Jr. and Jeremiah DeLong, both of Indian Lake; his grandchildren: Troy and Gabriella DeLong; five brothers: Barry DeLong of Fort Edward; Randy and Scott DeLong of Indian Lake; Kurt DeLong of Moores; and Larry DeLong and his wife, Carolyn of Lakeland, FL; his stepchildren: William Schwarz and his wife, Katherine of Thurman; Christina Prosser of Warrensburg; Amanda Prosser and her husband, Richard of Thurman; along with eight step-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, and cousins. At Allan’s request, there are no calling hours scheduled. Services are to be conducted privately at the convenience of his family. Allan and Carrie would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at the Glens Falls Hospital C.R. Wood Cancer Center, as well as the Warren County Public Health Nurses for the exceptional care they gave to Allan in his time of need.
