Obituary of Mary P. Murphy

Warrensburg / Brooklyn: Mary McKenna Murphy, 102, of Cloverleaf Drive passed away peacefully, Friday, October 25, 2013 at her home. Born March 17, 1911 in Brooklyn, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Catherine (Tevlin) McKenna. Mary lived in Brooklyn for 88 years before relocating to Warrensburg in 1999 with her daughter and son-in-law to be close to Cronin’s Golf Course, owned by her grandson-in-law, James Cronin and his wife, Mary’s granddaughter, Jean. This brought many family and friends to the area to visit and play a round of golf. Besides her parents, Mary was predeceased by her beloved husband, John Murphy, an infant grandson, Kevin Murphy, a granddaughter, Maureen Handerhan-Murphy, and her sister, Ann Caulfield. She is survived by her sons, John Murphy and his wife, Faith of Metuchen, NJ and Thomas Murphy and his wife, Maureen of Lord’s Valley, PA; her daughters, Katherine Weber and her husband, Robert of Wading River, LI and Warrensburg, and Rosemary Maher and her husband, William of Warrensburg. She also leaves behind 10 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren. Friends may call on Mary’s family from 6-8 pm, Monday, October 28, 2013 at Alexander-Baker Funeral Home, 3809 Main Street, Warrensburg. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am, Wednesday, October 30, 2013 at St. Thomas More Roman Catholic Church, 115 Kings Highway, Hauppauge, NY 11788. Rite of Committal will follow in St. Charles Cemetery, Farmingdale, Long Island. A Memorial Mass in Mary’s honor will be conducted 10 am, Sunday, November 24, 2013 at St. Cecilia’s Roman Catholic Church, Warrensburg. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations in Mary’s Memory to St. Cecilia’s Roman Catholic Church, 3802 Main St., Warrensburg, NY 12885, North Country Ministries, P.O. Box 111, North Creek, NY 12853, The Warrensburgh Museum of Local History, P.O. Box 441, Warrensburg, NY 12885, or to the Warrensburg Emergency Squad, 3 King St., Warrensburg, NY 12885. Mary was fortunate to have many outstanding caregivers over the past few years. Her family would like to thank Shannon Swanson, Linda Johnson, Star Holmgren, Darcy Baker, Betsy Allen, and especially Connie Hall, who has helped Mary to have an excellent quality of life for over six years. They would also like to thank the ministers of care from St. Cecilia’s, Maggie Bammert and Dan Garde who visited frequently and brought Eucharist to her.
