Obituary of Vernon Lee Harris

Vernon Lee Harris Sr., 73, of Buyce Cross Road, passed peacefully “Beyond the Sunset”Monday, January 18, 2016 in the Saratoga Hospital. He will be greatly missed.
Born January 3, 1943 in Glens Falls, he was the son of the late Lawrence “Bud” and Ellen (Jordan) Harris. He was raised by his Grandmother Fannie Harris.
He married Joan S. Burdett on June 24, 1962. They were married in The First Baptist Church of Warrensburg. They began their family in Thurman, NY in 1963.
He leaves behind his beloved wife of 53 years, His three children Vernon L. Harris Jr of Hudson Falls; Dana L. Power of Warrensburg; Deanna J. Harris of Thurman. He leaves behind two grandsons, Kyle Power of Vermont and Jason Power of Warrensburg. He was very proud of the men they have become.
Vern is also survived by his sister Marcia (Paul) Barrow of Lake Luzerne; his Aunt and Uncle, Ruth (Jordan) and Richard Leonard of Mayfield; his half-sister Alice Semon and her family and Brothers-in-law Donald and Ricky (Annette} Burdett; sister-in-law Debbie Burdett. Vern also leaves behind many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Vern and family appreciate the special friendship and faithfulness of Harrie Alger whom he called his “spiritual brother”.
Vern loved living in the Adirondacks and being out in the woods enjoying his hobbies and his constant beagle buddy “Cody”. Vern spent his down time watching and taking pictures of the deer and other wildlife that would appear in his back yard almost daily. He was a member of the Adirondack Chapter of the Good Sams RV Club. He was also a member of the Thurman Baptist Church.
Vern spent many years being an independent residential and commercial painter. Then he retired from being a truck driver and maintenance person for the Town of Thurman. A job he enjoyed.
At Vern’s request there will be no calling hours or funeral services scheduled.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to a charity of one's choice.
