Obituary of Jean M. Reed

Johnsburg: Jean M. Reed, 96, of Rt. 8, passed away peacefully, Friday, November 16, 2012 at the Adirondack Tri-County Health and Rehabilitation Center in North Creek. Born May 9, 1916 in Johnsburg, she was the daughter of Leon Jay and Jessie (Coulter) Morehouse. Jean was a lifelong resident of the area and graduated from the North Creek High School. Jean went on to graduate from beauty school and operated her own shop in North Creek. She married Frank M. Reed on November 25, 1945, upon his return from serving his country in WW II. Jean and her late husband were very active longtime members of the Johnsburg United Methodist Church and an active member of the United Methodist Women. She was also a member of Rebekah’s, Home Crafters, Gore Mt. Seniors Citizens, Johnsburg Historical Society and Board of Elections. She enjoyed crafts and sewing and was known for her exceptional baby quilts and various items made from men’s ties and silk pieces. A quilt Jean made in 1943 is on display in a special exhibit at the Adirondack Museum in Blue Mt. Lake. Besides her parents, and beloved husband, Frank, who died on June 27, 2009 after 63 wonderful years together, an infant daughter, Mary Jane also predeceased her. Jean leaves behind her daughter, Linda Gonyea and her husband, Lawrence of Glens Falls; two grandsons, Lawrence Gonyea, Jr. and his wife, Debbie of Glens Falls, Matthew Gonyea and his wife, Jeni of Glens Falls; two great grandsons, Logan and Wyatt Gonyea of Glens Falls; one great granddaughter, Sophia Gonyea; her sister, Mildred Prouty of Johnsburg and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends may call on Jean’s family from 2-4 and 7-9 pm Monday at the Alexander-Baker Funeral Home, 3809 Main St., Warrensburg. A funeral service to celebrate her life will be conducted 11 am Tuesday at the Johnsburg United Methodist Church with the Rev. Paul Winkelman, officiating. Burial will follow in Bates Cemetery, Johnsburg. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the Johnsburg United Methodist Church, PO Box 98, Johnsburg, NY 12843.
