Obituary of Irene M. Lamphier

Lake George: Irene M. Lamphier, 75, of Harrington Hill Rd., passed away peacefully, Thursday, May 20, 2010 at her home following a long illness surrounded by her loving family. Born December 22, 1934 in Barre Head, Nova Scotia, Canada, she was the daughter of the late Peter and Mary (Paul) Marshall, full blooded Native Indians. Irene was very proud of her heritage and kept her Canadian residency. She married Richard E. Lamphier on December 20, 1954 in Presque Isle, Maine. Irene babysat for a lot of local families and was affectionately known as “Ma” by many. She also was a chambermaid with O'Sullivan’s Motel and the Lake Crest Motel for many years before retiring from McDonalds. She enjoyed her time spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren and also her time with husband at their camp in Newcomb over the last 14 years. Besides her parents, her beloved daughter, Darlene Rathbun and brothers, Stephen and Abraham have also predeceased her. Survivors include her husband of 55 years, Richard E. Lamphier of Lake George, her four children, Anna Campbell of Forks, WA, David Lamphier of Bellingham, WA, Marshall Lamphier and his fiancé, Melissa of Thurman, Cheryl Kenyon and her husband, Marc of Thurman; 10 grandchildren, Marc Jr., David, Jason, Andrea, Marshall Jr., John, Brittany, Sean, Wally, Gerry; 16 great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Irene also considered Denise Squires and Gayle Braley has her daughters. Friends may call on Irene’s family from 12-2 pm Monday, May 24th at the Alexander-Baker Funeral Home, 3809 Main St., Warrensburg. A funeral service to celebrate her life will follow the visitation at 2 pm Monday at the funeral home with the Rev. Flossie Gage Bates of High Peaks Hospice officiating. Burial will follow in the Warrensburg Cemetery.
