Marie, Kevin & Mary and family, Phil …
This Native American poem is an offering of comfort in remembrance of Toby.
Though I did not have the opportunity to know him well … only a short time, he left an indelible impression as one with a kind and caring heart, a good man of his word.

…
Do not stand at my grave to weep
I am not there; I do not sleep.
I am the four winds that gently blow,
I am the diamond glints on fresh fallen snow …
I am the sun on golden ripened grains,
I am the warmth of gentle autumn rains.
When you awaken in morning's light
I am the haze through the sun …
… not long ago, seemed oh so bright.
When by evening, sounds fall to a hush
I am the strong unseen … uplifting rush
as eagles raise wings to take pleasure in flight.
Do not tell me goodbye, don’t dare say goodnight!
I am the bright northern stars that shine from above
And I will take watch over all those I love …
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there; I did not die.
…

Dear Marie:
So sorry to hear that Toby is gone. I will be there at the viewing and service, but know there is so little time to visit at that time.
Every time I walk into your home, I will look in that corner of the living room to see what puzzle he is working on next.. I am so pleased to have one of his puzzles to do here this winter. It will remind me of his smile and pride in his finished works.
My prayers and thoughts are with you.. Please call me if you need to talk, or if you want me to come up and visit with you...
Shalom.. Peace and blessings
Carol Galusha

Words cannot express our deep sympathy for your loss. Toby was the nicest and most sincere neighbor all through our childhood. I remember always visiting and playing the piano in his home. Having Jello with fruit in it with Toby and marie. Always seeing Toby waiting in the car in the grand union parking lot while Marie did her shopping. There are so many more memories. We will never forget him even through all the years that has passed as we grew older and moved away not once did we forget him. These memories have always stayed with us.

A loving, quiet, honest "dad" to me, apart from my dysfunctional biological family. He and "mom" Aunt Marie were always there for me. ALWAYS. In later years I learned a lot more about him, after he retired. His sense of humor and 'the wink', as Kevin puts it, the conversations we never seemed to have time for before and yes even the wise cracks between us. I'm going to miss, so much, coming home to visit and not getting the "usual greeting" his loud melodic "Hello There" as we come through the door.
I am so grateful he went with so little discomfort, he deserved that. So I say to him now, "Don't worry Pa, we'll all look after Ma for you now, until it's her time to join you. I PROMISE!
Thank You, for being in my life.

To the Family of Toby Hastings, I grew up around him on the hill where alot of us all hung out. I really got to know Toby working for Warren County, he was one heck of a welder and funny. Anytime he could help someone out he would do it in a minute. Phil, Kevin and Mrs Hasting, he will be missed by all of us. He was a great guy and left us with alot of smiles.
