Obituary of Harold W. Sherman

BOLTON LANDING: Harold W. Sherman, age 79, passed Monday, August 10^th, 2026 at Bolton Landing, NY of a heart attack; he died instantly.

He was born on March 18^th, 1947, at Glens Falls Hospital in Glens Falls, NY, to Harold Dexter Sherman and Verna Margaret Smith. Harold was predeceased by both of his parents and is survived by four brothers and four sisters, Connie S. Caple (Widowed from Sterling Caple), Bruce A. Sherman (Married to Patty Sherman), Valorie A. Sidorski (Married to Benjamin Sidorski), Laurie A. Lee (Married to Perry Lee), Deidre E. Strainer (Married to James Strainer), Craig M. Sherman, Rodney V. Sherman and Kevin D. Sherman (Married to Luise Sherman) and nine nieces and nephews.

He attended Bolton Central High School through 12^th grade and graduated in 1965. Following high school graduation he graduated from SUNY Plattsburgh in Plattsburgh, NY. After college, Harold moved to Mesa, AZ for several years and then to Lake Tahoe, NV before eventually returning to Bolton Landing, NY to do fiberglass repair for many of the local boat marinas.

An avid hiker, Harold scaled a portion of Mount Everest in 2003 and later returned to visit both Tibet and India. He was also able to add climbing to Uhuru Peak, Mount Kilimanjaro, in Tanzania, Africa to his list of achievements in 2005. In addition to his personal accomplishments, he also sponsored several orphans in Tibet over his life. He also developed an interest in his family’s genealogical research.

Harold has requested to be cremated and his remains be split, with one half being buried alongside his parents at Bolton Cemetery and the other half being spread by his brothers on Cat Mountain behind Edgecomb Pond across from his grandparent’s, Howard Smith and Rachel Wallace, former farm.

No funeral services will be held. A celebration of life will be planned with a date yet to be determined.
