Obituary of Stewart G. Jones

BOLTON LANDING:  Stewart Gordon Jones, 93, of Venice, Florida and Bolton Landing, New York, died peacefully on August 2, 2026 at his home on a lake he loved with his wife of 55 years by his side. 

Born to the late Dr. Charles Jones and Helen (Guldi) Jones, Stewart spent his early years in Port Washington, New York.  He earned both his bachelor’s degree and his doctor of medicine degree from Vanderbilt University, interned and proudly served in the U.S. Army, and completed his urology residency in Syracuse, New York.

Stewart chose to practice urology in Williamstown, Massachusetts, filling a critical medical void in the northern Berkshires, southern Vermont and parts of New York State.  It was a decision he embraced and cherished throughout his career and personal life.  His patients were often his friends and fishing buddies and payments were sometimes rendered in maple syrup or the like.

An avid outdoorsman and lifelong athlete, Stewart enjoyed tennis, golf, fly fishing, skiing and hiking.  In addition to hikes in the Berkshires and the Adirondacks, he and his wife hiked the Austrian and Swiss mountains many times.  Eyerolls from his friends and kids didn’t stop him from yodeling in the Alps or on foggy ski slopes; he was half Swiss after all.

Roles he particularly enjoyed were hosting two exchange student “sons”, Roberto and Alex, and coaching both girls’ and boys’ tennis for Mt. Greylock Regional High School.

Stewart is survived by his beloved wife Dianne Mullin Jones and five children: Keith Jones (Laurie), Steven Jones, Laura Kobrin (Troy), Jennifer Trefry (John), and Adam Jonesinski (Renata).  He also leaves his treasured nine grandchildren: Benjamin Kobrin, Alexander Jones, Isabella Jones, Jacob Kobrin, Samuel Kobrin, Jack Trefry, Wyatt Trefry, Soren Jonesinski and Lukas Jonesinski, and one great grandson, Oliver Kobrin.  Stewart’s bond with his one beloved brother, Dr. Charles Jones of Port Henry, New York, was lifelong and his nieces and nephews were unfailingly supportive and loved.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to High Peaks Hospice whose meaningful support was invaluable.
