PILOT KNOB: Brenda Jo Hitchcock, 69 of Willet Boulevard passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, July 11,2026.

Born September 29, 1956 in Glens Falls, she was the daughter of Pauline and Simon Cayer.

Brenda graduated as valedictorian of Johnsburg Central School’s class of 1975. She chose to stay at home raising her daughters until the youngest was able to attend school. Brenda then worked as a billing manager at Hudson Head Waters for over 15 years, and continued working in medical industry until retirement. Brenda’s passion to help others provided assistance to positively impact so many and allowed her to create long lasting relationships.

Brenda’s most fulfilling years were spent volunteering as a Paramedic for Johnsburg and North Queensbury’s Volunteer Emergency Squads and being a paramedic instructor. It is in this organization that she formed some of her closet personal relationships. Brenda enjoyed spend quality time camping with her daughters and was the loudest cheerleader on their sports fields never missing a game. Her most treasured role was being a grandmother creating treasure hunts, doing crafts, playing games, and sharing pizza on the bed. Brenda enjoyed traveling with her soul mate, Ernie, and porch sitting with her dog.

Her survivors include her two daughters Heather Johnston and her husband Chris of Jupiter, FL and Brook Carder and her husband Chris of Locust Grove, VA; 4 grandsons Connor (20), Reid (18), Hudson (18), and Aiden (15); her partner for over 30 years Ernest Whelden; and sister Robin Dunkley.

She was predeceased by her mother and step father Pauline and Simon Cayer; and beloved dogs Kali and Bebe.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in her memory be made to Pilot Knob Association, Attention: Cheri Stevens, P.O. Box 77, Katskill Bay, NY 12844.
