Obituary of Alice May Needham
WARRENSBURG: Alice May (Wood) Needham left her earthly body on May 9, 2026 at the Pines in Glens Falls, New York.
Alice was born August 25, 1930, in Thurman, New York and was a lifelong resident of Warren County.
Alice spent many years doing bookkeeping and related work and retired from the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation after nineteen years of service. She immediately returned to working at a summer job as she and Ray spent winters in Florida at the mini-Warrenburg community. She finally retired again after ten years but was never idle. She was often in her kitchen trying new recipes or baking something. She enjoyed reading, crocheting, knitting and doing crafts. She loved to tell stories of growing up on the farm and she and Ray spent many years living “off the grid” with no electricity or running water. Over the years they always had at least one canine companion: Miss P, Missy, Boots, Princess, Nugget and Ruby, just to name a few, and she doted on them.
She had a very strong, forceful personality, and after her beloved husband Raymond passed on in 2009, Alice lived independently well into her 90s.
She was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Raymond Needham, two children Garry Needham and Suella Rogers, her brother Philip Wood and sister Vera Brown.
She is survived by her daughter, Sheila (Mike) Mender of Warrensburg, her brother, Steven (Diane) Wood of Athol, five grandchildren; Jason Rogers, Michael Needham, Jennifer Ison, Dallas Pelekai and Carla Pelekai and four step grandchildren; Jake Mender, Greg Mender, Marisa Mender Franklin and Matthew Mender, seventeen great grandchildren as well as several great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family is grateful to the caring staff at the Pines of Glens Falls who kept her last days comfortable.
Visitation for Alice’s family and friends will be held on Tuesday, May 19, 2026 from 5pm-6pm at Alexander Funeral Home, 3809 Main Street, Warrensburg, NY. A funeral service will take place following visitation at 6pm with Pastor Nancy Barrows officiating.
