Obituary of Laura E. Cameron

Please share a memory of Laura to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

THURMAN: Laura E. Cameron, 103, of Thurman, passed away peacefully at her home on May 8, 2026, surrounded by her beloved family.

Laura was born at home on February 5, 1923, to the late Alec and Elizabeth (Ellsworth) Goodnow. She graduated from Warrensburg Central School in 1941 and, the very next day, on June 30, 1941, married her high school sweetheart, Jack Cameron. Together they built a loving family, welcoming their three children: Ken in 1942, Jackie in 1946, and Jerry in 1947.

In addition to being a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, Laura was known as their waitress extraordinaire. She worked for 33 years at Howard Johnson's, missing only one day of work when a train derailment prevented her from crossing the tracks at Thurman Station.

Laura was a longtime member of Thurman Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school for many years. She enjoyed bus trips with friends from the Thurman Senior Center, and her beautiful flower gardens reflected her love and talent for gardening. Laura was also gifted in many crafts, including crocheting, knitting, and cross-stitching. She showed her love through cooking and baking, always making sure no one ever left her home hungry.

Laura’s home was always open to everyone. Although she had three children of her own, countless neighborhood children gathered at her home over the years. During the winter months, she delighted in serving hot chocolate to the children skating on her pond, creating memories that will be treasured by many.

Besides her parents, Alec and Elizabeth, Laura was welcomed into heaven by her beloved husband, Jack Cameron; her son, Jerry Cameron; her granddaughter, Shelli Cameron; her sister, Mae Rozell; and her brother, Robert Goodnow Sr.

Left to cherish her memory are her children Ken (Pat) Cameron of Queensbury and Jacqueline (Ed) of Homosassa, FL; grandchildren Barre (Pam) Cameron of Fort Ann, Kemm (Dan) Pemrick of Queensbury, Holly (Stephen) Rogers of Kenner, LA, Chad Holbert of Holiday, FL, Tracey Cameron of Thurman and Kelli (Greg) May of Stony Creek; 13 great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Memorial donations in Laura’s memory may be made to Thurman Baptist Church, 386 South Johnsburg Road, Warrensburg, NY 12885.

A funeral service for Laura will be held on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Thurman Baptist Church. Burial will immediately follow in Thurman Baptist Cemetery.
