Obituary of Michael S. Kinnarney

Please share a memory of Michael to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

STONY CREEK:  Michael S. Kinnarney, 67 years old of Stony Creek, NY passed away at Glens Falls Hospital on April 25, 2026.

Anyone who knew Michael knew how much he loved life and the great outdoors.  This passion began early, following his grandfather, Morgan Pasco, through the woods where he learned to lay trap lines, scout deer, and fish.  In addition to exploring the local woods, he enjoyed deep-sea fishing and loved sharing tall tales of the monsters he caught.  As a child, he also cherished visits to his Uncle Hub in Massachusetts, where he learned about coon hunting and developed a lifelong love for raising chickens.

Michael moved to Stony Creek in the early 1980s and completely fell in love with the area and his home.

Animals were always central to Michael’s life.  His love for dogs began when he was gifted his first pup, Willet, by his Uncle Mike and Aunt Sandy.  Willet became his dedicated companion and protector, and over the years, he was never without a canine friend, with his last beloved dog being Buddy.

A gifted artist and craftsman, Michael often carved bears, wolves, and custom pieces for friends and family.  He stayed busy through his artwork, paintings, and treasured hand-carved walking sticks, leaving behind a collection of unfinished projects that reflected his talent.  For many years, he was a regular vendor at the World’s Largest Garage Sale in Warrensburg, never missing a year until this past one.

An avid music lover, Michael frequently traveled – sometimes with friends, sometimes solo-to music festivals, with Woodstock reunions being his favorite.  He loved discovering new places and meeting new people.  At home, he tended a large garden, generously sharing its bounty with friends and family, and became known as a highly skilled and prolific grower.

Above all, Michael was celebrated for his incredible storytelling, spinning tales that were always entertaining-and mostly true.

Michael was a generous, kind, and giving person who leaves a permanent hole in our hearts.  He will be deeply missed every day.

While there is so much more to share, works cannot fully capture his spirit or the full life he lived.  Those who come to his celebration of life are welcome to sit, relax, and tell stories just as he would have wanted.

Micheal is predeceased by his parents, Frederick and Regina Kinnarney; his siter, Kelly; and his girlfriend, Shannon.

He is survived by his siblings Kevin, Casey, and Erin (Mike); his nieces and nephews Brittney, Dustin (Emily), Olivia (Cory), and Kody (Jen); his Aunt Sandy; his great-nieces and great-nephews; and the many dear friends who loved him.

A celebration of Michael’s life will be held on May 30, 2026 at the Stony Creek Rec Field from 1pm – 5pm.
