WARRENSBURG: Gerald D. Reed, 82 of Warrensburg, NY passed away surrounded by his loving family on April 7, 2026 at Glens Falls Hospital.
Jerry was born at home in Warrensburg on July 21, 1943, to the late Cecil and Isabell (Matteson) Reed. He graduated from Warrensburg Central School and went on to begin a career in retail. During high school, Jerry met the love of his life, Mary Ellen Farrell, whom he married on June 22, 1963. They shared 51 years of marriage before her passing in 2014.
Jerry’s career spanned decades with KB Toys. He began working at the Northway Plaza store in Queensbury and later managed the location after it moved to the Aviation Mall. His dedication and hard work eventually led him to the corporate office in Massachusetts, where he retired as Vice President.
Jerry could often be found on the sidelines of his children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events, cheering them on with pride. He also enjoyed attending dirt track races at Lebanon Valley and Malta Speedway. He volunteered as a driver for Meals on Wheels and loved traveling with Mary Ellen, especially to Florida and Las Vegas. In recent years, Jerry found great joy in beautifying his home, tending to vibrant summer flowers and creating spectacular holiday displays on his porch that were admired by many in the community.
In addition to his parents, Jerry was predeceased by his beloved wife, Mary Ellen Reed; his daughters, Melissa and Lynn Anne; and his brothers, Wayne and Bruce Reed.
Left to cherish his memory are his children, Shelly (Roger) Durkin and Jay Reed; his granddaughters, Judi (Justin) Hull and Jennifer (Justin) Page; his great-grandchildren, Ryan, Emma, and Sawyer, and step-great-grandchild, Charlie; his sisters, Ruth McNeill and her companion Lee, Jody Lovett, and Joan (Ronnie) Monahan; his brothers, William, Dale, Eddie (Teri), and Earl Reed and his companion Elaine; as well as longtime friends and neighbors, Jerry and Barb Grant, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
