Obituary of Robert J. Smith

NORTH CREEK:  Robert J. Smith Jr., 87 of North Creek, NY passed away on March 29, 2026 at Glens Falls Hospital.

Robert was born on July 25, 1938, in Pottersville, New York, to the late Robert and Geraldine (Blazy) Smith. He grew up in North Creek and graduated from Johnsburg Central School in 1956. Following graduation, Robert proudly served in the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged in 1960. He went on to work as a UPS driver for 34 years before retiring.

On February 16, 1985, Robert married the love of his life, Marilyn, whom he met while making deliveries to Riverside Gas & Oil, where she worked as a secretary. Robert enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching the UCONN ladies’ basketball games, avid NY Yankees fan and riding his four-wheeler, but above all, he cherished spending time with his family.

Besides his parents, Robert is predeceased by his beloved wife, Marilyn Smith.

Left to cherish Robert’s memory are his children Victoria and husband Charlie LaCroix of Whitehall, Cheri Smith of North Creek, Heather Smith of Cary, North Carolina and Christine LaFond of Hudson Falls; grandchildren Logan Watson of Ballston Spa, Kelsey Smith and Lauren Smith, both of Carey, North Carolina; brother William Smith of Florida and sister Margaret and husband Larry Lanphear of Minerva.

Robert’s family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Norman in the ICU at Glens Falls Hospital for his exceptional care, compassion, and for going above and beyond in caring for Robert.

A celebration of Robert’s life will be held on Saturday, July 25, 2026 from 2pm – 6pm at 54 Fairview Ave., North Creek, NY
