Obituary of Norma J. Galusha
JOHNSBURG: Norma Jean (Dunkley) Galusha, 83, of Johnsburg, New York, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 15, 2026, at The Wesley Community in Saratoga Springs surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Bakers Mills, New York, on October 16, 1942, to the late Robert and Cora Dunkley, she spent much of her life in the area. In 1958, she married Eugene Galusha and after settling in nearby Johnsburg, the couple founded E. Galusha Trucking and Heavy Equipment Co. in 1961. Norma devoted her life to supporting her husband Gene in his endeavors and later her 3 three sons Rodney, Dan, and Matt in theirs. While quiet and reserved, there was never a debate that she was the one in control. A strong businesswoman in her own right, she worked tirelessly day and night to build a company, all-the-while never sacrificing her responsibility as a mother to 3 spirited boys.
Besides work, she enjoyed baking pies, tending to a large vegetable garden, and tasting all the many ways of preparing steak, particularly prime rib. Lovingly referred to as “Little Grandma” given her petite stature, she will be remembered for her huge heart, and her unwavering dedication to her family.
Norma is preceded in death by her husband Eugene Galusha and sister Mavis Mahoney.
She is survived by her 3 sons, Rodney L. (Vicky) Galusha of Greybull, WY, Daniel S. (Tina) Galusha of Warrensburg, NY, and Matthew D. (Maureen) Galusha of Bakers Mills, NY; two sisters, Irene Morrison and Mildred Ordway; two grandsons and four granddaughters; and six great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to North Country Ministry, P.O. Box 478, Warrensburg, NY 12885 or www.northcountryministry.org.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 26, 2026 from 4pm – 7pm at Alexander Funeral Home, 3809 Main Street, Warrensburg, NY. A funeral service will be conducted following visitation at 7pm with Pastor Ron Allen officiating.
