North Creek:

Harry D. Monroe, 87, of East Holcomb St., passed away peacefully, Sunday, March 15, 2026 at Elderwood at North Creek following a long illness.

Born September 1, 1938 in North Creek, he was the son of the late Elwin and Gladys (Smith) Monroe.

He was a lifelong resident of the area.

Following his graduation from Johnsburg Central School, Harry attended SUNY Canton where he earned his degree in Automotive Tech. He was then drafted by the United States Army where he proudly served his country until his honorable discharge in 1963.

Harry worked as a truck driver and forklift operator at Barton Mines in North River for many years.

He was a man of many talents and enjoyed nothing more than tinkering, building, and driving his beloved cars that he had over the years.

Harry was a lifelong member of the North Creek Baptist Church and a longtime member of the North Creek American Legion.

Besides his parents, he is predeceased by his siblings, Elwin Monroe, Jr., James Leo Monroe, and Lottie Ellifritz.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Nancy Monroe of North Creek; his children, Kenneth Monroe and his wife, Dora of Hesperia, CA; Amy Thew and her husband, Todd of Darien Center; Karen Waters and her husband, Jason of Queensbury; and Michael Monroe and his wife, Nichole of Fort Riley, KS; grandchildren, Shannon, Jessica, and Kahya Monroe; William, Jacklyn, and Andrew Thew; Kayla and Nick Waters; and Mickaela and Hunter Monroe; he is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins including his “special niece” Judy Monroe.

Per Harry’s request, there are on calling hours scheduled.

A graveside service with military honors will be conducted at hack Cemetery, Johnsburg at a time to be announced.

Harry’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the nurses and staff at Elderwood for their outstanding care and compassion during this difficult time.
