Obituary of Peter S. Corlew
WARRENSBURG: Pete Corlew, passed away at the age of 57 in his home on February 7, 2026 after a hard-fought battle with anaplastic thyroid cancer.
Peter Scott Corlew was born to Charles (Chuck) and Barbara (Duell) Corlew on July 8, 1968. He grew up in Lake George in his younger years and then Warrensburg in his teen years, making good friends in both towns.
Big Pete made an impression on Patti by leaving roses under the windshield wiper of her car wherever it may have been parked. He married her on September 16, 1989 and they brought their daughter, Emmalee, into this world a few years later. Pete was the best dad any girl could ever ask for. He took the time to play Barbies, watch Disney movies and Little Bear with her, took her camping and fishing, and also taught her how to shoot.
Pete worked for the Warrensburg Central School District for 33+ years. He ended his career there as Heads Groundman, which he took great pride in, especially prepping the fields for the kids’ games. He also enjoyed greeting the teachers and kids and their parents during morning bus duty.
Big Pete had an honorable work ethic who thought work should come first. This allowed him to be a great provider for his family. He did, however, enjoy his time off, hunting, fishing, watching NASCAR races (before they changed the rules), attending races at the Albany-Saratoga Speedway, taking Patti and their fur babies on adventures, dining at their favorite restaurants and trying some new ones. He was an avid reader of Stephen King novels. He loved a good concert or music fest and of course he loved riding his Harley and driving Patti’s GT.
He treasured his friendships with his buddies: some of them he considered “brothers”. He was a loyal, protective husband, dad and friend.
Pete is predeceased by his dad; his father-in-law, Ron Matern and brother-in-law, John; along with other family members and friends.
Besides his mother, Barb Irish, Pete leaves behind his best friend & wife, Patti; his loving daughter, Emmalee and her fiancé, Rob Murphy; his grand dog, Lucy; his siblings, Gina Corlew and Slugger Corlew, his mom-in-law, Dot Matern; his sis-in-law, Barbara; his nieces and nephews, Tristen, Sheri and Danielle and Ben Evans; great nephews and great niece, uncles, aunts and cousins. He was honored to be named Godfather to Ben and Treyah.
In keeping with Pete’s wishes, there will be no services; however, he is allowing us to have a party at the Warrensburg Fish Hatchery to celebrate his life when the weather warms up. This will be held June 6, 2026 from 1pm – 6pm.
Big Pete will be sorely missed by all who loved him. May we always remember Pete telling us to “rock on” and “rubber side down”.
